Interesting to be allergic to something that doesn’t exist.
Drive an SUV and save a Child!!!
This sounds like another made-up “disease” like ADHD and ADD.
A former pastor of ours has the opposite problem - sunlight makes him swell up like a balloon.
Interesting gambit for the parents to attempt to use the ADA to get home heating bills paid for....
wow.
I guess you can really be allergic ANYTHING
I’m allergic to Liberals....
the girl’s family lives in upstate New York

Cold induced urticaria is a (female dog). Mine is not as severe as hers, I can eat cold food and drink. It is prolonged exposure to cold that triggers the reaction.
A friend of my daughter is having horrible allergy problems. She is slowly becoming allergic to almost all foods. It started off with an allergy to seafood. She is down to only being able to eat a few things and it is affecting her lungs now. She can barely walk across a room and she’s only 24. This all started after she became an adult.
“Left untreated, the cold could literally kill her.”
Ya think?
“Cold urticaria affects 15 to 25 percent of Americans at some point in their lifetime”
Wow. You’d think that the existence of this disease would be common knowledge with those sorts of numbers. Of course, it might be that vast majority of cases are far less severe than what this poor kid is dealing with currently.
Di-hydrogen monoxide can kill you too... if you get enough of it..
Sounds like something akin to Raynaud’s, Scleroderma, etc.
Just one more reason to cheer for a warmer planet /s
This is a real syndrome:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chronic_cold_urticaria
It is some type of immune system malfunction. As such, oddly enough, she should have her GI tract flora analyzed to determine what microorganism blend she has compared to healthy people.
Even stranger, her response might be due to a malfunction caused by the absence of an intestinal parasite.
I had this problem when I was seven years old — I used to break out in terrible hives when I jumped into a cold swimming pool and I was diagnosed with cold urticaria. Happily, I outgrew the problem.
A Gulf War Veteran former Platoon SGT of mine used to swell up during the cold. It wasn’t life threatening, but he had problems breathing and moving his joints. It’s weird, but it’s real.
