VENTURA, Calif. -- A Secret Service agent assigned to protect Nancy Reagan is recovering after accidentally shooting himself in the hip at a sheriff's department shooting range.

Ventura County sheriff's spokesman Capt. Mike Aranda says the gun went off as the agent was putting it back in its holster Friday at the range in Camarillo. The agent was hospitalized with a non-life-threatening injury to his hip. His name was not released.

Nobody else was injured.

Swiss: Of all the wasted taxpayer money, this is probably one of the least wasted. I suspect that the cost is minimal compared to many of the huge budget busting expenses we bear. I would recommend that you watch movie “Guarding Tess” which was a fairly light treatment of the subject.

Bingo. That was close to my comment in another thread on this story. Probably reholstered with his finger on the trigger, bad trigger discipline. Instant negligent discharge. And we’ll probably never get the full story.

Why would a Glock fire unless he pulled the trigger JUST like a revolver?

I have been carrying a Glock for 20 years and have yet to shoot myself or ever have one “go off”, what ever that means.

I have never encountered anyone with extensive experience with Glocks to have a problem with them.

Guns just don’t go off. Even not Glocks, although I am not a Glocker. Pilot error for this one. At least he did not shoot Nancy

If he carries a Sig, my guess is he failed to decock it before attempting to holster it. That is one reason why I don't like double-single action autos like the Sig 226 and Berreta 92 and some older S&Ws. When the hammer is back it has a hair trigger.

Thanks for clearing that up. My own Glocks only fire when the trigger is pulled. And they fire every time the trigger is pulled.
