I own(ed) a 2005 Toyota Corolla, that I bought new in 2005. I had 100,000 trouble free miles on it, it was a stick shift and the sticker said 36/42 mpg. and it got that and better up until two weeks ago when my son totaled it. All I ever did to it was regular maintenance, new tires, oil changes, new wiper blades and that's it.
I will be buying a 2011 car in the next few days and am seriously considering a new Camry, loaded with stuff for $19,990.
Anybody here have one? Anything to say about them, negative or positive?
Wow. Glad he wasn’t hurt. My dad has a Toyota Avalon and loves it but I prefer my Honda. I have a 1996 Honda Accord I refuse to let go of. Other than gas and the required service checks, I have had to do nothing else. I did have to have it towed once several years ago but Honda covered the price of the tow and the repair due to a defective part even though my warranty expired.
My husband says all women need a ‘Barbie Car’ like my Honda. One that invisibly keeps itself up, much like the toy pink convertible we all had growing up.
Kid OK?
When she does buy a new car, there is no doubt what it will be, the only thing that she'll have to decide on is the color, because it will be a 4 door, 6 cylinder, Toyota Camry XLE same as this one.
I drove Mercedes for 35 years and 4 years ago switched to a Toyota RAV 4, All Wheel Drive and never looked back. Mercedes makes a terrific car. but on a price/performance basis, the Toyota beats it hands down.
I can buy two RAV 4s for the same price as a single Mercedes {I know I don't get the hood ornament} and have cash left over.
I never notice. I've had only manual trans cars since 1965, except when I rent. I thought about getting an auto trans once for my wife, but she test drove one and didn't like it. She also recognized that about the only time an auto trans car is in the proper gear is when it is just starting to move and when it is cruising on an interstate, and you just don't have the same degree of control with an auto trans.

Wouldn't even enter my mind.
Not a mark on him.
He’s a big man at 6’5’’ and he had the seat back as far as it would go and had the back tilted. He said the air bag didn’t even touch him.
The problem with that admirable plan is that Barry's "Cash for Clunkheads" accomplished its mission, which was to destroy as many serviceable used vehicles as possible to force people to buy new union-made vehicles.
Since the supply of good used vehicles is way down, their price is way up.
Sucks, but that's the way it is.
I love my Fusion.
I have never owned a Camary. However, I am on my second Tacoma with over 100k miles. I will probably buy a 3rd next year after we pay off my wives Honda Odessey.
I’d say the fact that you son walked away, unscratched and unbruised, is a good enough reason to stick with your prefered brand.
you = your
In the past, I would have agreed with you. However, many new cars, especially the smaller and mid-sized sedans now get better mileage with the automatic, than they do with the stick (if a stick is even available anymore).
I had a POS Chevy Cavalier that kept breaking down and GM basically blew me off. So in 2000, I bought a Camry. I am now on my second one.
Zero.
But if you mean what was it just prior to destruction, it was about 36/42 with the odometer just having passed 100,000 miles.
By the way, I paid $14,400 in cash for the car, brand spanking new. Six years and 100,000 miles later K.B.B. says that my car in "excellent" condition, with that many miles on it, retails for $9,115.
My insurance adjuster low balled me with $8,800 offer and he's going to pay for new tags (about $200), which is one whole lot better than I expected. Plus I have the use of a rental car that I can use for 30 days.
I'm a realist and I know they will get it all back over the years, if I live long enough, with increased premiums.
The more “stuff” you have loaded onto a car the more “stuff” will break or go wrong. GO BASIC!
I love my little Manual Honda Civic. Drove it cross country, no issues. Just drove it through the snow and ice here in Austin, it was fun being king of the road with snow tires.
