Conversations In 1955

I received this from Mama Rocks. The Music & Graphics are precious. With all that's going on in the world. I thought I would Pass on something we can relate to & bring a smile to our faces.

www.mamarocks.com/conversations_in_1955.htm

'I'll tell you one thing, if things keep going the way they are, it's going to be impossible to buy a week's groceries for $20.00.'

'Have you seen the new cars coming out next year? It won't be long before $2 ,000.00 will only buy a used one.'

'If cigarettes keep going up in price, I'm going to quit. A quarter a pack is ridiculous.

'Did you hear the post office is thinking about charging a dime just to mail a letter?'

'If they raise the minimum wage to $1.00, nobody will be able to hire outside help at the store.'

'When I first started driving, who would have thought gas would someday cost 29 cents a gallon. Guess we'd be better off leaving the car in the garage.'

'Kids today are impossible. Those duck tail hair cuts make it impossible to stay groomed. Next thing you know, boys will be wearing their hair as long as the girls.'

'I'm afraid to send my kids to the movies any more. Ever since they let Clark Gable get by with saying DAMN in GONE WITH THE WIND, it seems every new movie has either HELL of DAMN in it.'

'I read the other day where some scientist thinks it's possible to put a man on the moon by the end of the century. They even have some fellows they call astronauts preparing for it down in Texas .'

'Did you see where some baseball player just signed a contract for $75,000 a year just to play ball? It wouldn't surprise me if someday they'll be making more than the President.'

'I never thought I'd see the day all our kitchen appliances would be electric. They are even making electric typewriters now.'

'It's too bad things are so tough nowadays. I see where a few married women are having to work to make ends meet.'

'It won't be long before young couples are going to have to hire someone to watch their kids so they can both work.'

'Marriage doesn't mean a thing any more, those Hollywood stars seem to be getting divorced at the drop of a hat.'

'I'm afraid the Volkswagen car is going to open the door to a whole lot of foreign business.'

'Thank goodness I won't live to see the day when the Government takes half our income in taxes. I sometimes wonder if we are electing the best people to congress.'

'The drive-in restaurant is convenient in nice weather, but I seriously doubt they will ever catch on.'

'There is no sense going to Lincoln or Omaha anymore for a weekend, it costs nearly $15.00 a night to stay in a hotel.'

'No one can afford to be sick anymore, at $35.00 a day in the hospital it's too rich for my blood.'

'If they think I'll pay 50 cents for a hair cut, forget it.'

Not Without Hope
February 26, 2011

“Sixteen Tons,” written by Merle Travis and recorded by Tennessee Ernie Ford, became one of America’s most popular songs in the mid-1950s. People seemed to identify with this coal miner’s lament about feeling trapped and unable to change his situation no matter how hard he worked. Coal miners often lived in company-owned houses and were paid in “scrip”—coupons valid only at the company-owned store. Even if summoned to heaven, the miner said, he couldn’t go because he owed his soul to the company store.

That sense of hopeless resignation may help us understand the feelings of the Hebrew people during their 400 years of bondage in Egypt. When Moses told them of God’s promise to release them from slavery, they didn’t listen to him “because of anguish of spirit” (Ex. 6:9). They were so far down they couldn’t look up.

But God did something for them that they could not do for themselves. The Lord’s miraculous deliverance of His people foreshadowed His powerful intervention on our behalf through His Son Jesus Christ. It was when “we were powerless to help ourselves that Christ died for sinful men” (Rom. 5:6 PHILLIPS).

When life is at its lowest ebb, we are not without hope because of the wonderful grace of God.

When trouble seeks to rob your very breath,
When tragedy hits hard and steals your days,
Recall that Christ endured the sting of death;
He gives us hope, and merits all our praise. —Gustafson

No one is hopeless whose hope is in God.

Read: Exodus 6:1-13

I will rescue you from their bondage, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with great judgments. —Exodus 6:6
Bible in a year:
Numbers 15-16; Mark 6:1-29

Judge Gently

Pray don't find fault with the man who limps or stumbles along the road, unless you have worn the shoes he wears or struggled beneath his load. There may be tacks in his shoes that hurt, though hidden away from view, or the burden he bears, placed on your back might cause you to stumble too.

Don't sneer at the man who's down today unless you have felt the blow that caused his fall or felt the shame that only the fallen know.

You may be strong, but still the blows that were his if dealt to you, in the selfsame way, at the selfsame time, might cause you to stagger too.

Don't be too harsh with the man who sins or pelt him with word or stone, unless you are sure, yea, doubly sure, that you have no sins of your own - for you know perhaps if the tempter's voice should whisper as softly to you as it did to him when he went astray, it might cause you to stumble too.

She is beautiful, JC! I had a cat that looked a lot like her but was gray. She screamed and screamed at me to go outside - so I let her out - for just a little while. (She never came back.) Coyotes I am sure. Sniff, sniff!

I hope you will ask your son how he did that frame!

Hello friends. My Caturday Cat Molly is all eyes out the front window watching the blue jays feed at the table.. (popcorn, crushed crackers, chips)

Really hammered once again with snow. Have tried all morning to get someone to plow.. lots of voice mail messages left. About 1 foot in drive & 10 feet from road into apron about 3 feet which represents all the road plow drops.

Got a new bluRay & TV for V day & have been watching the 6 year Harry Potters. Had seen them all many times but the special segments of extras with each disc is great. The last movie (Half Blood Prince) had it’s own disc that included a one hour documentary on a one year in the life of JK Rowlings. Really interesting.

I am pretty much socked in but the roads are good & it is date night & friend Bill will still pick me up

The dogs LOVE the snow & romp & roll & make me guilty that I dislike it so much

I am putting up a Oscar Live thread tomorrow. Let me know if you might want to get pinged to it. Will be up in early afternoon as I will be gone for day;

Keep warm, dry & safe everyone!

Love, love, Hug, hug

This has been around for some time but it sure is a reminder of how things USED to be!

I got my first car at 16. Gas wars were abundant. There were times I would fill the tank for $1.26 and it lasted me for several weeks!

Ah.....the 'good old days'!

To keep fresh in our minds the promises and the instructions of God is paramount for all who love God..

Psalm 24 (King James Version)

Psalm 24
1.The earth is the LORD’s, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.

2.For he hath founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the floods.

3.Who shall ascend into the hill of the LORD? or who shall stand in his holy place?

4.He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully.

5.He shall receive the blessing from the LORD, and righteousness from the God of his salvation.

6.This is the generation of them that seek him, that seek thy face, O Jacob. Selah.

7.Lift up your heads, O ye gates; and be ye lift up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in.

8.Who is this King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle.

9.Lift up your heads, O ye gates; even lift them up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in.

10.Who is this King of glory? The LORD of hosts, he is the King of glory. Selah
