How did Tennessee get Exempt from Obamacare? (vanity)
self

Posted on 01/31/2011 5:38:25 AM PST by 30Moves

I just read that 4 states are exempt from Obamacare: Mass, Ohio, Tennessee and New Jersey.

I missed this in the news. Anyone know how and why Tennessee is exempt?

Tennessee and Mass have some sort of state insurance, don’t know about the other two.

Could that be why?

Tenncare is bankrupt, they are slashing and cutting the program almost daily. I’d think this purple state would secretly love the idea of more .gov handouts!

Hmmm, Tennessee sounds like Alaska; talks the conservative talk, but walks the liberal walk. Tsk, tsk, not nice...

state insurance

That’s a laugh. Tenncare and romneycare.

Both are in the advanced stages of insolvency are they not?

Totally illegal. In the Constitution the press of the federal order is to fall equally upon the various States. It’s called uniformity. But I guess “illegal” doesn’t apply to our parasite pols.

I thought these were some of the states that exempted themselves... basically thumbing their noses at this unconstitutional federal mandate.

TN and Mass have a form of obamacare, for the ‘qualified’. It is about to BANKRUPT Tennessee. They keep down sizing who is ‘qualified’. It is our form of Medicaid on a broader scale. FAILURE in containing cost, illegals can get it.

“I’d think this purple state...”

Is Tennessee going liberal? I thought the Republicans had been gaining ground there.

Errr, I do not think so.
Remember, we did not even vote for homeboy Albert Goreon.
Granted, we DID wind up with two turncoat RINOs in the senate,
but compared to the rest of the states, Tennessee is as American and conservative as you can get now.

Yes, we do have Tenn-Care - and I know that many illegals who live in Dalton, Ga get a P. O. Box in Chattanooga and thus get Tenn-Care.

Yes, we have a budget deficit - we have a new Republican Governor but I fear he is just like his predecessor.

Maybe this is why Lamar Alexander won’t vote to repeal Obamacare!

It is all a scam to get more taxes. States and the Feds talked the health care, raised taxes, put the hospitals and doctors more under their thumb, will dump health care and keep the tax money and the control.

Tennessee was one of Obama’s worst states in 2008. If you assume that the black vote was nearly monolithic in his favor, then the percentage of whites who voted for Obama was probably in the 20 to 25% range.

What I have been trying to determine is: Does the state waiver (for 4 states currently) exempt all state residents from the mandate, or does it only exempt the government and its employees as a whole?

It should be remembered that red = republican not Conservative.

Tennessee is now Republican in both houses of the legislature, the Governor, Two US Senators and several Congressmen. Tennessee is very red. It is not however conservative in the definition here on FR. Conservative candidates do not fare well against those more moderate Republicans.

Many here consider all not conservative to the bone as RINO’s but in Tennessee strong conservative candidates don’t get elected.

Where I live, A strong conservative won the congressional seat against a field of other Republicans, only to lose the seat in the next election against only one. The current congressmen is conservative republican but not to the same degree. He is as conservative as can be and get elected

Never mind the link...I found it. However, I think a more official source is needed to really substantiate this.
