I'm tired of hearing some people, even from FR say that we need to "rise above the fray"!

I'm sick and tire some on our side buying into the myth that if we just "rise above the fray" from attacks that are scurrilous and baseless that we will somehow win the arguments against us! That's pure bull!

We are playing right into the hands of the MSM and liberals when we act civil and honorable "according to their rules of acting civil and honorable" which is to shut up and sit down about conservatism and not fight back. The only kind of people that the left and MSM consider honorable are people like Bob Dole and John McCain both of whom lost by not fighting.

Speaking of McCain, notice how 'civil' he was in 2008 "[Senator Obama] is a decent person and a person that you do not have to be scared about as President of the United States,". There's a difference between rhetoric and record, but you can still be respectful," McCain said to one questioner. "I will point out his record and I will do it with respect."

Did Obama act respectful and civil? Linking President Bush and Senator John McCain as partners in “the failed policies” of the past seven years and criticizing them for “hypocrisy, fear peddling, fear mongering.”? "They're going to try to make you afraid of me. They're going to say you know what, "He's young and inexperienced and he's got a funny name. Did I mention he's black?"

The MSM called McCain's rallies vitriolic and tinged with racism and hateful but said that Obama has run a clean, non-slanderous campaign and deserves respect. He is the one that wishes to address the issues and look how wonderful Obama is, he will help heal the nation.!!!

What happened in 2008 is almost happening in 2011 with the attacks on Sarah over the Tucson attacks; Barack Obama stood back for days and let his supporters in the media and left rip Palin apart, only then to proclaim that we don't really know what happened in Tuscon and let the media narrative was how wonderful Obama is!

But this time Sarah fought back after a few days and only had a few choice towards the media, and the left and media STILL ATTACKED HER OVER IT'!

If all the others here or pundits like Dick Morris or even FOX NEWS are gonna sit around and watch this happen and say "don't do nothing" or be tepid in a response at best then they need a brain analysis. If Conservatives cannot defend themselves over these baseless, libelous charges then they got no business running. period!

Perhaps it was bad wording, or misplaced emphasis, I don't know, but I was not the only one who perceived it as an afront to ClearCase_guy.

You do what you want, no skin off my back.

It doesn’t make sense to me either, but how often have you seen someone gay vote only based on what the politician is promising on gay rights? No worries about the economy, or global warming, war, abortion, immigration, free speech, gun rights, etc.

"Jesus did the same without crude and abusive language. As a Christian, I'd suggest you try that model." Now if that wasn't an unwarranted slam, I don't know what one is.

Jesus was crude and abusive when He needed to be. He certainly did not make nice and friendly with His enemies. His behavior was so thoroughly outrageous to the power structure that they branded Him a criminal and slaughtered Him in the most horrible manner possible.

He forgave them the monumentally evil nature of their sins, not their nasty little murder when He said, "Father forgive them for they know not what they do." They obviously knew they were killing Him. They did not care to believe they were killing the incarnate God.

Maybe their being “nice” helped with the media, or maybe the media just helped them look “nice”.

Meanwhile, we've had those on FR claiming we need to nominate candidates who get a fair showing on Leno and Lettermen. I'm not sure if these posters are idiots or insurgents...

I suppose you think someone like George Washington would agree with you?

Absolutely.

I perceived it as a total affront to ClearCase_guy, which is why I believe he should apologize.

We all sometimes post things we regret later, but we should at least have the decency to apologize when we do so.

I had to eat crow many a time. It wasn't tasty or easy, but it's one less “gorilla” sitting upon my shoulders.

It is equally important to do so in a civil manner.

Have you ever read JimRob's posts when chastising a miscreant, particularly those who push the homosexual agenda? If you don't like our tone, perhaps you should look at the big guy's comments. He has quite the talent for giving the "Smack Down" on the trolls. Perhaps he could benefit from your kinder, gentler approach. I'm sure he'd welcome your call for "Kumbya."

I do not want civil discourse

For a decade, from the election of Bush 43 forward, the Left has lied and cheated as it tried to return to power. Al Gore made a mockery out of the American electoral system by being a spoilsport over Florida, which Bush indeed won by 537 votes. Dan Rather forged a document to try to derail Bush’s re-election. Twice Democrats stole U.S. senators from the Republicans. After voting to support the war to get by the 2002 election, many Democrats quickly soured on the war. The profane protests were cheered by liberals who misattributed “dissent is the highest form of patriotism”to Thomas Jefferson; the words belong to the late historian Howard Zinn.

Once in power, liberals were the opposite of gracious.

For two years now, I have been called ignorant, racist, angry and violent by the left. The very foul-mouthed protesters of Bush dare to now label my words as “hate speech.”

Last week, the left quickly blamed the right for the national tragedy of a shooting spree by a madman who never watched Fox News, never listened to Rush Limbaugh and likely did not know who Sarah Palin is.

Fortunately, the American public rejected out of hand that idiotic notion that the right was responsible.

Rather than apologize, the left wants to change the tone of the political debate.

The left suddenly wants civil discourse.

Bite me.

The left wants to play games of semantics.

Bite me.

The left wants us to be civil — after being so uncivil for a decade.

Bite me.

There is grown-up work to do now. Liberals ran up the federal credit card, destroyed the American medical system and undermined the rule of law — which is the foundation of capitalism — with a bunch of unconstitutional fiats from the president and his bureaucracy.

The economy is a mess. The president “inherited” a 7.6% unemployment rate. It’s now 9.4% — after we spent a record $787 billion on a stimulus.

I was not consulted on that stimulus. I had a very good argument against it. I said the money supply was too large and printing more money would fail. I said let the economic downturn run its course.

Lefties were too busy celebrating the 2008 election to listen.

When people protested lefties made vulgar remarks about tea-bagging and giggled.

So screw you and your civil discourse.

I don’t want to hear it.

I have been screamed at for 10 years.

It’s my turn now. I am not going to scream back. But I refuse to allow anyone to dictate what I say or how I say it. I refuse to allow the same foul-mouthed, foul-spirited foul people who dumped on me to now try to tell me what I may or may not say.

My free speech matters more than the feelings of anyone on the left. You don’t like what I say? Tough.

I will not allow people to label my words Hate Speech or try to lecture me on civility. I saw the lefty signs. The left’s definition of civil discourse is surreal.

We have a terribly unfit president who has expanded government control beyond not only what is constitutional but what is healthy for our freedom.

Indeed, this call for civil discourse is itself a direct threat to my free speech.

So screw you.

You don’t like my words? You don’t like my tone? You feel threatened?

Too bad.

No.

Actually, that is what I want. I want the lefties to feel bad. I want them to feel hurt. I want them to cry to their mommies.

That way the field will be cleared so we grown-ups can fix the nation and the economy. If you can’t put up with a little excrement, get the hell out of the barn.

Examination of ideas is gone from FR. Post something negative about Empress Palin if you do not believe me. Or try a Catholic or Mormon thread.

Have you ever worked w/someone diagnosed w/bipolar disorder?

Yes. One of my very best friends is bi-polar and we butt heads occasionally but more often than not we get along very well.

Bi-polar folks can be extremely creative and "on a roll" when they want to be.

Unfortunately, a lot of manic depressives are narcissistic.

And narcissism is not something someone is afflicted with -- it is a set of CHOSEN personal characteristics and behaviors.

A bad attitude is not a mental disorder. Sorry.

And a lot of people who struggle with bi-polar CHOOSE to not take their meds until 2 or 3am, which of course then makes it impossible to wake up before noon the next day.

This sets up a cycle where they claim they can never work a 9 to 5, due to the extreme sedative qualities of many anti-psychotic meds.

But these same meds, if taken (much) earlier, like 7 or 8pm, can make it possible for most people with this condition to hold down (at worst) a part-time job and, at best, a full time job.

It's a proven fact.

For example, sometimes a married couple will have 3 or 4 kids and two of them will be bi-polar.

Yet, usually only one of the two is able to hold down a job.

Why is this?

Why is the one sibling successful and the other is not?

And what is the successful sibling doing differently which is making success possible?

Usually, the simple answer is self-discipline.

Self-sabotage as a means to stay on the dole, even if sub-conscious, cannot be condoned.

We need to speak softly and carry a big stick. That stick is truth and perseverance. If we are ‘surgical’ in our responses, and truthful and incisive, we will come out on top.

The left ignores truth. That's why they push the "Fairness Doctrine." Our political enemies are trying to silence us.

The stick may be truth and perseverance; but if we are to survive it must be used as a bludgeon to be effective. We need to expose their lies and evil deeds. We need to be heard while we still have a voice.

NGZ, Thanks for the effort. All I can say is that I found it faintly amusing that GingisK used extremely poorly chosen words to tell people to choose their words carefully. His lack of introspection, humility or contrition are also somewhat funny. You can’t change people. I figure he is who he is.

...rabid humans...

Actually, I would first encourge everyone, including "them", to discuss matters of state less rabidly. Then maybe we could make some progress.

People whose opinion radically differs from your own are not necessarily unpatriotic or evil. They just see things differently; and, like many Conservatives, never seemed to learn to discuss matters calmly or intellegently. We "fight" nowadays rather than "negotiate". We have lost touch with the spirit of compromise and the very nature of statesmanship.

If civility cannot be restored to the political process, then there can only be a real civil war. Sometimes I think that might be the most reliable course.
