Minneapolis may have dropped a notch on the "Most Literate City" list this week, but the metropolis picked up a new title: Gayest City in America. That's according to the Advocate, the national gay news magazine based in Los Angeles.
The city came from nowhere to snatch the tiara from last year's winner, Atlanta, which slid to No. 7.
"This was Minneapolis' first appearance [on the second annual list], and it shot right to the top," said Matthew Breen, executive editor for the Advocate.
What makes Minneapolis so gay, so suddenly? The Advocate changed its criteria for making the list, Breen said. "Last year, we looked at same-sex couples, gay-marriage equality, gay bars and the number of gay films on Netflix favorites pages. This year we looked at the number of dot.com [dating site] profiles per city, the number of gay elected officials, lesbian bars, gay-friendly congregations and gay yellow page listings."

For reasons unclear to me, Minneapolis really is a gay-friendly city. Even major employers like Target, etc. set up booths at "gay" job fairs and sponsor things like the yearly GLBT parade in downtown Minneapolis.
I suspect that we're not nearly as bad as San Francisco though - if that's any consolation. We are close (I suspect) to have the largest Somali population of any city in the United States. That, in itself, should be almost more alarming.

Errr... hmmmm... how do I say this... rolling your eyes is pretty gay. Just sayin'
Mpls was gay as all get out 30 years ago. All you had to do
was walk around the streets uptown to notice that.
Ex senator larry “wide-stance” craig wasn’t busted at the san fransicko airport, was he? There’s probably a reason he was tappin’ toes in minnegaypolis.
I think they all come over from St. Paul. There is no proof, but I’m just sayin.
Its where my militant lesbian cousin and her “wife” live.
That would make sense as St. Paul is pretty clear where God stands on homosexuality...
The thing about “gay” cities is that straight people don’t really enjoy gay places so much as gay people enjoy straight places.
Straight movie theatres show Hollywood movies. Gay theatres show porn.
Gay people can go to straight places and not feel out of place, because everyone there is just acting like a normal person, which I believe gays can, and often publicly do, do. But labeling something “gay” is like giving anyone who visits a license for licentiousness.
Butch lesbian - “man” without a penis
So your saying you couldn’t act normal at a gay bath house? Bigot.
Even the pro athletes...
Former Minnesota Vikings player Esera Tuaolo “was arrested for domestic violence in June 2010 in North Oaks, Minnesota....Tuaolo stated that the person he was accused of assaulting was his current boyfriend...”

Minneapolis and St. Paul
Sodom and Gomorrah
Last night I was laying in bed watching some kind of reality detective show. There had been a stabbing in Minneapolis. The murderer turned out to be somali.
First thing the murderer said was that it couldn’t be me because the victim was white. After that every 3rd word was allah.
Stuart Smalley is one of your senators. I’m just sayin’.
So if we have the Somalis and the gays live in the same neighborhood, think there would be a little war in Mpls?
Yes, I could tell from the Mary Tyler Moore show. Murry was a flamer. So were all of Mary's dates.
Or maybe the whole '70's just looked gay.
Those of us in Wisconsin always knew...
Prince looks pretty gay, too.
