Since the season is more than month away, and information is incomplete, this is a preliminary post. When more information develops, I'll post the "formal" announcement.

Survivor: Redemption Island is the 22nd season of Survivor. It begins Wednesday, February 16, 2011 on CBS.
This season introduces a new twist:
From Wikipedia: When a contestant is voted off their tribe, instead of leaving the game, they are taken to the area known as Redemption Island. There, they will have to sustain themselves in the same manner as when they were with their tribe, living on limited food and water supplies and shelter. When the next contestant is voted off, they are also sent to Redemption Island, and the two people will face off in a duel challenge. The winner remains in the game, living at Redemption Island, while the loser is finally removed from the game. At pre-determined points in the game, the person at Redemption Island will have a chance to return to the game and be reunited with the remaining players in the game.
There is also a rule change. If a player quits during the jury phase, the producers reserve the right to not allow that player to serve on the jury.
Here is a video from last season's finale where Jeff Probst explains the twist.
This season takes place in the same location as last season: in the vicinity of San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua.
CBS has announced sixteen of the eighteen players for this season. The other two players yet to be named will be "former castaways." The rumors are that those two players will be Rob Mariano (Boston Rob) and Russell Hantz - and that they will each captain a team (video). If true, this would be the third appearance for Russell and the fourth appearance for Boston Rob.
Ten of the sixteen players are from Southern California.
Ometepe Tribe: Andrea, Ashley, Francesca, Grant, Kristina, Matt, Natalie, Phillip
Zapatera Tribe: David, Julie, Krista, Mike, Ralph, Sarita, Stephanie, Steve

As of Survivor: Nicaragua, this is a new Survivor ping list. The old list is no longer available, so I would appreciate it if any of you could ping interested parties to this thread. Thank you. :)
If you wish to be added to or removed from the ping list, please let me know.
Everybody else, thanks for the comments, insight and general comradery.
See all of you next season.
I think RI belongs in the trash can.....
But that’s just my opinion.
I think the “real” players need to gang up on whoever comes back and vote them out immediately.
This season got lucky with Andrea. If she would have talked the two other girls into flipping and it was a three girl final three I think she would have won hands down.
The old underdog comeback sympathy vote from the jury.
Sole Survivor: Rob - 8 votes
Second place: Phillip - 1 vote
Third place: Natalie - 0 votes
Rob also wins $100,000 in the Sprint player of the year award.
Voted out last night: Andrea, Ashley
Redemption Island last night: Andrea wins and re-enters the game. Matt, and Mike are out and join the jury.
Immunity reward challenge winners: Ashley, Rob
Finalists: Natalie, Phillip, Rob
Jury: Andrea, Ashley, David, Grant, Julie, Matt, Mike, Ralph, Steve
Eliminated: Francesca, Krista, Kristina, Russell, Sarita, Stephanie
Immunity Idol status: Rob played the idol.
Next season: Survivor: South Pacific is the twenty-third season of the American CBS competitive reality television series Survivor, which will premiere in the Fall of 2011. The season will be filmed in the vicinity of Upolu, Samoa, which is the same filming location as season 19 and season 20. Redemption Island, first introduced in the prior season, will return. There will be 16 new players to Survivor and two returning players.

See you next season!
I hate those “entrapment” proposals.
It is very disrespectful to the woman being asked, I think. Perhaps not intentionally, but it does not show a lot of empathy on the man’s part.
She either gets to say “yes” or humilate a guy in front of a ton of people and make herself look like a jerk.
I wish they’d go back to the format of Season I so we could get to know the contestants. Now days, I don’t care about them and certainly don’t remember them because they aren’t being introduced to the audience anymore. I remember everyone from the first couple seasons but can barely name half of the ones on last night.

Thumbs down. Hated it. I wish they’d go back to their roots...get real people and drop the mactors.
Thumbs down on Redemption Island for me.
Agreed.
Thanks for all the pings and doing a great job with all the reporting!
:)
Thanks EveningStar for doing a great job of hosting this site. I’m one of the odd ones out and was glad that Rob finally won the million. Now he can go away and do whatever comes next in his life. I wonder who the 2 returning players will be for the South Pacific? At least we know it won’t be Rob or Russell or Richard Hatch. :)
Thank you, girlscout.
Matt and Philip are among the possible candidates to return.
