Since the season is more than month away, and information is incomplete, this is a preliminary post. When more information develops, I'll post the "formal" announcement.

Wikipedia article

Survivor: Redemption Island is the 22nd season of Survivor. It begins Wednesday, February 16, 2011 on CBS.

This season introduces a new twist:

From Wikipedia: When a contestant is voted off their tribe, instead of leaving the game, they are taken to the area known as Redemption Island. There, they will have to sustain themselves in the same manner as when they were with their tribe, living on limited food and water supplies and shelter. When the next contestant is voted off, they are also sent to Redemption Island, and the two people will face off in a duel challenge. The winner remains in the game, living at Redemption Island, while the loser is finally removed from the game. At pre-determined points in the game, the person at Redemption Island will have a chance to return to the game and be reunited with the remaining players in the game.

There is also a rule change. If a player quits during the jury phase, the producers reserve the right to not allow that player to serve on the jury.

Here is a video from last season's finale where Jeff Probst explains the twist.

This season takes place in the same location as last season: in the vicinity of San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua.

CBS has announced sixteen of the eighteen players for this season. The other two players yet to be named will be "former castaways." The rumors are that those two players will be Rob Mariano (Boston Rob) and Russell Hantz - and that they will each captain a team (video). If true, this would be the third appearance for Russell and the fourth appearance for Boston Rob.

Ten of the sixteen players are from Southern California.

Ometepe Tribe: Andrea, Ashley, Francesca, Grant, Kristina, Matt, Natalie, Phillip

Zapatera Tribe: David, Julie, Krista, Mike, Ralph, Sarita, Stephanie, Steve

I missed the episode this week and had to watch it online.

The deeper RI goes in the game the less I like it. If a RI survivor makes it to the final three I think they win.

Well, so go the best laid plans.

Too bad Grant but maybe she’ll be joining you Sunday.

Sunday? It is Sunday? The two hour final? Man to they ever have a bunch of people to kick to the jury.

Seems a bunch will have a very limited time at Ponderosa.

“Seems a bunch will have a very limited time at Ponderosa.”

LOL! I hadn’t thought of that. Not only do you NOT get a chance to win, you get no time (maybe one day) to kick back, feed your face, take a shower every day.

You have to endure the whole damn thing like the people who win money but no chance for reward.

I think when the episode ended it was night 35.

They’ve got 3 days (+ 39th) to get rid of 3 of the RI players, reinsert the one RI player into the game - and then get rid of two of them to get down to the final three.

So that works out to 5 players in three days.

Well, here we are at the close of another season of Survivor.
A season filled with drama queens, Mactors, Crazies, cry babies, and general all around pains in the tukuses!
So… without further ado, here are my predictions for the final episode on Sunday. (and these are just my guesses, nothing from any spoiler sites etc.etc.)

The episode starts off (Day 36) with the 4 way RI duel between Andrea, Grant, Matt, Mike.
I think this is going to be a “one person wins, the other three get sent to the Jury” type challenge.
Therefore, I’m hoping Matt wins simply because I like Matt and after what he’s had to put up with, hope he gets back into the game to enact his revenge on Boston Rob. (Not that I have anything against Boston Rob! Believe it or not, I actually like Rob!)

Anyway, Day 36 – Matt wins the RI challenge, re-enters the game, leaving us with Matt, Rob, Phillip, Ashley and Natalie at camp.

Day 37, Matt wins the immunity challenge and the girls team up with Matt to send Boston Rob to the Jury.

Day 38, Matt again wins the final immunity challenge and the three send Phillip to the Jury leaving us with Matt, Ashley and Natalie as our final three.

Day 39, even with much finger pointing, name calling and all around boo-hoo-ing at the final tribal council, the Jury ends up giving the win to Matt.
It might be unanimous, or the vote might be split with the five Zapatera Jury members (David, Julie, Ralph, Steve and Mike) voting for Matt and the remaining four Jury members (Andrea, Grant, Phillip and Rob) splitting their votes between Ashley and Nat. In either case Matt wins.

Finally, I’d like to give Kudos to EveningStar for doing a wonderful job hosting this Survivor thread.
Thanks, and I’ll see you all next season.
Cuz

I LIKE your scenario, but who knows?

I am unhappy that we have to get rid of five players in two episodes. They could have stretched it out a week or two!

I have decided that Phil is not really crazy. He is just good at acting crazy and uses it to his advantage.

Also, his statements about rice to the girls were perfectly normal and sane. They did not to get all nutty on him. I guess everyone is tired and hungry.

I have lost respect for the remaining girls. All these opportunities to go for the gusto and they just lie around and hope Rob is telling them the truth. They do not deserve to win.

So I don’t know who I’m rooting for, but I am rooting for a man. Grant’s attitude when he got voted out impressed me. He seems to have a mind as strong as his body.

Agreed about the girls and their snotty attitude. Sure, Phillip is crazy, nutty loony tunes crazy but they are showing their junior high immaturity for all of tv to see.

If Matt makes it to the F3, he’s the sure winner.

If Rob makes it (not gonna happen), he is the true deserver of the win since it was his game the entire season. Russell could take some pointers from Rob.

If Grant makes it back in, he’s the winner. Not that he deserves it since he did nothing but ride Rob’s coat tails. Not that Nat did anything but hitch her ride to Rob’s star. Not that Phillip did anything but be the obvious loser to take to F3. Well, Phillip does deserve kudos for making it this far (thanks to Rob) without someone burying him neck deep alongside his shorts. Ashley? Ashley has done n-o-t-h-i-n-g to have gotten this far, absolutely nothing. So, as Jeff said, we really do need a deserving winner this time but it’s not going to happen.

BTW, it’s 3 hours on Sunday. Yes, they should have taken this out another week. Wonder what’s pressing on the schedule that they had to rush the ending?

Is that the 2 hour show and the 1 hour reunion show?

I call it a night pretty much after the votes are read.

Woo hoo!

Gotta get the garden tended and supper done so I can devote my night to the tv. I refuse to pick up the phone unless it rings during the “oh, I almost forgot who this loser was ‘cause we voted him off so long ago” segment.

I wasn’t a fan of Rob’s until this season when he’s played this game to a tee. Not that he’ll win, but GO, ROB, GO!

Cheers to ES for hosting the thread this season. Thank you!

Who’da thunk it. Rob won! I never thought the other players would let him get this far. They had chance after chance to boot him off until they had no choice but to hand him the million on a silver platter. Even Nat and Phil bowed down to him rather than plead their case. Sure, he deserved the win but I’m still blown away that common sense ruled the jury.

Russell was still pizzy. You can guarantee that Mark Burnett tossed his number.

Thank you, Phillip, for burning those pink, uh, no plum undies. Plum? Seriously, plum??? What man knows the difference between pink and plum.

David. Hmmm. Cheered his jury speech but I dunno about his proposal. I’m afraid she turned him down when the stage lights dimmed. Still, he’s a nice guy who was about the smartest person on the island so I wish him all the best.

This was the best season in a while. Thanks, Mark. Thanks, ES. Thanks, everyone. See ya next season!

Went about the way I thought it would. Glad they didn’t waste time doing the walk through all the player’s names.

Called it a night right after the votes were read and Rob came back from dancing in the isle.

So they even talked to Russell?

Yeah, for a minute. They showed where he cried when he was booted. He said it was the stress of the game. Also, jumped on NFL Steve giving up and not trying which was true. Then asked if he’d come back and he was wishy-washy and finally said not to throw away his phone number.

Several players weren’t interviewed or even shown. Jeff brought in some woman who couldn’t put two words together (a la Natalie) who claimed she went to secret agent school with Phillip. Heaven help us if those two are any indication of who’s protecting us.

David started dating some previous Survivor Carolina (don’t remember her at all) after the show and proposed to her on air. Very strange and she all but snorted in his face but after much stumbling and uh-uh, she finally said yes for the camera. Poor David.

Jeff said two previous players will return next season.

Never did figure out why the ad was out for the Matt look-a-like.

Special Survivor Ping!

The Redemption Island concept: thumbs up, or thumbs down?

Before we get to the recap, how did you like the introduction of Redemption Island to the game?

Redemption Island will also be a part of next season.
