Home preserves, those staples of the pantry 60 years ago, quickly rose to new heights of D-I-Y coolness. Never knew I and my garden and home canning would make me part of the "New Cool Crowd"!

I’ve made the Cooks.com “perfect” chocolate chip cookies. They are indeed good, and not that much more of a hassle than regular old Toll House (which was the baseline they worked from). Much more of a rich, “gourmet” cookie than something you’d serve to the kids, of course.

Suppers were so distinctive when my kids were little c1970.

Breakfast was cereal and milk. Lunch was soup and/or sandwich. Dinner was meat, potato vegie, bread, butter, milk for dinner. Sunday and Tursday was sauce and macaroni.

Snacks? Maybe graham crackers, ho hos, chocolate cup cakes. (we had a Millbrook outlet near us) but not every day.

Never bought chips...and I mean NEVER.

When I made more money, we occasionally went to Pizza Hut for the buffet.

They're all grown up...eat a lot of cr** food and they all have bellies...but thank God, they are healthy.

Mom, at 67, is still 108 lbs, 115/70.

Now you'll find them, tastefully clad in Birkenstocks and Columbia-brand field shorts, rustling up a salad of watercress and morels from out of the wild wood.

Ah, the Bobos go to graze.

Do these people still think Whole Foods is cool?

I think the author of the article is stretching to find "trendy" new foods that people are eating. Most people are not eating these items.

Recent trips through my local supermarket reveal that most trendy new foods are fruit roll-ups, rice cakes of various flavors and textures and exotic flavors of tortilla chips (such as black bean and garlic). I think pickled pigs-feet are finally catching on in a big way as well.
