Glenn Beck may be one of the hottest talk show hosts in the country, but he apparently left New York's WOR cold.

WOR (710 AM), one of the city's two biggest talk radio stations, said this morning it is dropping Beck's syndicated show as of Jan. 17 and replacing him with a familiar New York name: Mike Gallagher.

It isn’t a conspiracy. It’s the fact that radio programming is not an exact science. It’s as much by guess and by golly as it is numbers. The other problem is that sometimes the programmer for the station, whether or not it is ACTUALLY the program director, are often young or early middle-age types who do not understand the entire audience. They may discover that Gallagher’s numbers are far worse than Beck’s. The question at that point is whether or not they’re willing to put Beck on the air or take a chance on another program. To paraphrase Bugs Bunny, “Wadio Programmers is the cwaaaaziest people.”

I don’t know all the ratings, but it seems to me he could replace Crummey or Levin.

I don’t listen to WOR because their signal sux.

It is a 50,000 watt station with the main tower in Rutherford, NJ. I don't know what their transmission patterns are, but I had no problem receiving it in Hartford, CT. Came in as clear as WABC (770) or WINS (1010). WFAN/WNBC (660) came in strongest of all.

I take them all with a grain of salt, they are just my many inputs of data I use to arrive at my own conclusions.

When Beck first came to FOX he was energetic, uplifting, and had a positive slant on what our problems were and what we could do about them together.

I think someone got to him, as all of a sudden he turned fanatical about his glooming and dooming. He even announced at the end of that year - the first year when his ratings were off the scale - that he would be having a "radical change" after a short time....and boy did he. He really has interested me much since.

Now it's just, "they're coming for us America. Be ready America. blah blah blah". The last time I listened to him I wanted to go out back and dig a bomb shelter.

I pretty much stopped listening to Glenn Beck’s radio show. Production-wise, it is horrible. He also has those other clowns in the studio and everybody’s voices all sound the same. I could never figure out who is speaking. Plus Glenn has a very childish way of making silly faces (and in this case, voices) to get otherwise, pretty credible points across.

That’s funny. In Northern NJ I can’t get WOR in very clear at all. Basically it’s unlistenable. WABC and WFAN are clear as a bell. Even 880 is a better signal than WOR.

"I agree with you about Sean Hannity. He’s a nice man, but he isn’t the brightest bulb on the tree, nor is he a deep thinker."

I like Hannity on TV. However, he's terrible on the radio. He loves to talk about himself. Then he'll say something like "but I don't like to talk about myself". Grrrrrrr!! Yes you do!!!!! He carries on idiotic jokes with his staff on air that no one finds funny. A caller may have a good point, but we never know because most times they don't ever get to their point. Something they say will remind Hannity of something about himself and he'll tell a story that he's told 20 other times on the air.

I agree about Levin also. Wish we had him on the air here instead of Hannity. His book Liberty and Tyranny was awesome. A true conservative manifesto..

"Rush works out better on radio, strange"

Rush was great on TV. His only problem was the TV stations put him on at 2 AM. I used to tape it and watch it the next day. I looked forward to coming home back then and playing that tape. I remember one bit where he showed a typical Republican and he had a picture of a military formation and they were all marching. Then he showed a typical Democrat and displayed a picture of a bunch of sheep bahhing. It was hilarious! On his TV show, he did a lot of similar stuff as on radio where he had a lot of hilarious skits and pictures that made the points he wanted to make.

I'm the other way around. I like his radio show more than his TV show. Not that I dislike his TV show.

Slightly different formats though I guess. In particular his radio show gives him more opportunity for comedy than the TV show does.

I totally agree with you. I did the same thing - taped the show while I slept and watched it with my morning coffee. Rush’s TV show was awesome. I loved his ties.

But the situation in America IS that grave today. There are so few who are aware of the massive effort by communists to dismantle our system. Thanks to a largely clueless right-wing media and a badly biased leftwing media (and school system), many think the communist threat is just something that was dreamed up by Sen McCarthy years ago. Beck, with his faults, fills a desperately needed niche.

RE: Beck v. Gallagher

I haven't heard Gallagher on the radio in my area for years, but for as funny as Beck can be, he can be awfully preachy.

Gallagher tended towards more current subjects, however frivolous.

IIRC, the first time I heard of that Westboro "Baptist" church, it
was because Gallagher had the pastor on to "discuss" the "God
Hates..." website. That probably around the end of the
last Millennium.

Not good news on two fronts.

Now I’ll have to find another streaming audio site, and that insufferable twit Smerconish is getting an afternoon drive time show.

He’s unlistenable. I can’t stand him.

Any idea on where I can still catch Beck in the morning on the ‘net?

LOL. I feel that way too. But still, if his info is true, and it makes you feel that way, don't you want to know about it? I think his details about the organizations of the left financed by "Mr. Scary Guy" is invaluble.

I have noticed he has turned around in the last month or so to talking much more about positive things people can do in their everyday life to counter and be prepared for what the left is doing. Maybe people were telling him he was to negative, or maybe it's just something he realized himself. In any case I watch his TV show most days. Don't get his radio show here.

Agree Rush was great on TV but I think it’s the networks bigwigs rule where you end up.

If you want comedy, try watching some classic TV shows such as Andy Griffith or Sanford and Son. Comedy should be at the bottom of the list when it comes to critical political issues. Just a suggestion.
