Glenn Beck may be one of the hottest talk show hosts in the country, but he apparently left New York's WOR cold.
WOR (710 AM), one of the city's two biggest talk radio stations, said this morning it is dropping Beck's syndicated show as of Jan. 17 and replacing him with a familiar New York name: Mike Gallagher.

>>There are big changes coming to the Big Talker.
CBS-owned WPHT 1210 AM Thursday announced a new lineup that will go into effect in January. Longtime morning drive-time guy Michael Smerconish is giving up the morning shift to focus on his nationally syndicated afternoon show. He’ll be replaced by Chris Stigall, who is currently on in Kansas City.
The station also is dropping national figures Glenn Beck and Sean Hannity in favor of local content, with Smerconish replacing Hannity in a late afternoon and Beck being bumped in the morning by longtime WPHT host Dom Giordano.
(snip_)
Stigalls hiring is the result of Michael Smerconishs decision to discontinue his morning program so he can focus on his nationally syndicated midday program. Smerconish will continue to be heard on WPHT weekdays from 3-7 p.m. with the first hour of the show dedicated exclusively to the Philadelphia audience. Smerconish will debut in his new time period on Monday, Jan.17, 2011.
Every time I listen to Beck lately he’s either A) promoting the Fox show nonstop, B) goofing around talking about nothing, or C) replaced by a guest host that day.
Some of these stations are so dilluted with national hosts that they’re opting for locals. I was in radio for 25 years and can’t say that it was overly exciting to hear everything so homogenized. Driving from town to town it’d be refreshing to hear local talk.
Hannity being replaced makes even more sense. He’s boring. Talks to the same guests over and over. Coulter, Gingrich, Rove. It’s old and boring.
Haven’t gotten into Beck myself; did tune in a couple times and he was either a “happy good time morning show” with some sidekicks, or over-dramatic...in Boston many of the shows syndicated by Premiere/Clear Channel are on Clear Channel’s
Rush Radio 1200 (local, former Philly host Jeff Katz then
Beck, Rush, Hannity, Jason Lewis, Mark Levin, Coast to Coast).
It hasn’t done too well in the ratings though
Beck from his days as a DJ

Yes; in Prov RI for example Citadel’s WPRO has all local hosts while Clear Channel’s WHJJ is mostly their own
syndie hosts like Rush, Hannity, etc; not sure how ratings are but you see one station taking the local tilt. In Boston
conservative talk WRKO and WTKK have a lot of local hosts
while Rush Radio 1200 is mostly those Premiere hosts; while
the former two have gotten good ratings, the latter one has not. (Though Rush Radio does have a local morning show)
My favorite talk host is a local/regional one, New
England’s Howie Carr
I stopped listening to Savage because he was always gone when I tuned in.
His radio show did suck in comparison with the TV program. He joked around way too much with that dopey sidekick of his. I can’t believe they didn’t realize they needed to cut that crap out.
PS- here’s a link to watch past episodes of his fantastic FoxNews TV show:

Yea, they may crack themselves up but I can't listen to it.
Crummey is just that. I wonder what anyone saw in him that made them think he would be a good choice.

The guy who should have a show is fill-in for Savage - Dwight Schultz who was on the A-Team. Very funny, bright and he knows Th Constitution. Sort of an American Mark Steyn but even funnier.
Glen Beck became a anti-birther RINO with his good buddy BOR9e) aka Bill O’Reilly. BOR is a POS.
Gallagher was on WABC for about three months after the misguided firing of the great Bob Grant.

Glenn Beck is just about the only one who gets into the communist angle. Hannity and Limbaugh know or understand next to nothing about the movement. And forget a-hole/idiot O'Reilly.
That's what kills it for me. At the first of an hour, he might talk about something for 5 minutes, and the rest of the hour is incoherent babbling. (some shows are worse for this than others)
I agree with you about Sean Hannity. He’s a nice man, but he isn’t the brightest bulb on the tree, nor is he a deep thinker.
Every conservative lineup should include Rush and Levin, but after that, local programming is valuable, if it is done well. Our local talk show hosts helped to flip the entire state (WI) from Dem to Repub in the last election. They saw to it that the Repub candidates had access to listeners to counteract the union ads and the local liberal rag.
Beck is far funnier on radio, IMHO,and far better than Galagher.
But it’s like your favorite restaurant. You don’t like the meal or service one time and you stay away.
My Beck history from years back..FWIW
radio first...ok...it was there I listened but thought he was wacky
TV...liked his history at first till it took on this New Conservatism tone with PC race stuff...and this “I hate Teddy” crap never resonated with me.
radio now...i can handle him but he is an oddball
I own all his books but he is way down my list of conservative likes.
all that said...Wilcow would be a better fit to replace Beck...on radio
I’m with you....I can only take so much of the Beck show...
