Veteran ESPN broadcaster Ron Franklin was pulled from the air before Saturday's Fiesta Bowl after he called ESPN sideline reporter Jeannine Edwards "sweetcakes" during an off-air spat, Sports By Brooks reported Sunday.
Franklin and Edwards were scheduled to work together for Friday's Chik-fil-A Bowl and the incident occurred in a pre-game production meeting also attended by ESPN announcers Ed Cunningham and Rod Gilmore.
When the conversation turned to the subject of Gilmore's wife Marie being elected mayor of Alameda, Calif., Edwards tried to join in but was shut down by Franklin, according to the report.
Why dont you leave this to the boys, sweetcakes, Franklin told her.
Dont call me sweetcakes, I dont like being talked to like that, Edwards responded.
Franklin then said, OK then, a**hole.

Is “Kenny, Goose, and Moose” the worst announcing team FOX has ever had?
Kenny looks like a rat or a weasel. Thankfully, I don’t see too many games with them announcing but as a Redskins fan, I’d like to see a broadcast without any Cowboys in the booth :-)
Well, as a Cowboys fan, Id like to not have to see Moose or Troy doing any games. Id rather remember Troy as the Super Bowl QB when I was 10 than an announcer. Moose just isnt interesting. The problem I have is we get every NFC East game on FOX, so even if Dallas isnt playing, I still have to go through the Moose and Troy broadcasts. Im very happy to have NFL RedZone, at least some variety.
Oddly enough, I get FCS and they they have a contract with Lehigh to broadcast all of their football games. Ive gotten to see every team in the Patriot League as well as the game vs Lafayette.
Even though they lack some top sound and video quality (due to a small budget) I would much prefer to hear them announce a Penn State game over anyone ESPN could throw out.
I agree with you. For what it's worth, I can't even stand any of the sideline interviews or post game interviews for that matter......
That would be sweettaters line of fashion...
I prefer to remember Troy getting smashed by LaVar Arrington in Troy’s final game :-)
Who asked you to butt in to this discussion, sweetheart?
Me? No. I would have verbally abused him with two, maybe three words.
methinks he was banned for calling her a**hole.
Oh sweetcakes, I nailed you and you’re oh so mad. LOL!
You’re interrupting again. Now, be a good little fellow and sit there looking pretty.
You’re probably right. Most people I know who view life as victimhood through the prism of their own gender are likely to lash out verbally and emotionally to insults. Its hard to let anything slide off of you if you are that rigid. Some people have grown up and can put the personal aside at work, some haven’t.
Nice try. Be true to form now and have the last word. I know you can’t help yourself.
Hey, I’m just one of those females.
But, thank you for proving my point. You didn’t like being told to be quiet and stay out of the conversation. As evidenced by your repeated replies to me. Well, this woman didn’t like it either.
Ya didn’t know you were making my point, did ya wise guy?
It’s not victimhood, it’s damned rudeness. My telling you to ‘shut up, I’m talking with someone else’, is like talking to a child. This woman was a co-worker. She had every right to comment. Just as you do. You haven’t been able to resist commenting. Again, I made my point with you as well. Thank you.
I have called HS football and basketball off and on since 2002. I was 16 when I started.
When I am calling a game. I don’t care what area im in. I try to be the same and take the middle road.
I was calling a playoff game once and there was an interception returned for a touchdown and the score was then 28 to 19. I said something like “That may do, it may be slipping away (from the losing team) now. I happened to be in that schools press box. And this guy came up to me and time that I had a bad attitude and he would see to it that I would never be able to broadcast a game there again. LOL. I kid you not. The next year I went back to the same place and as I passed the same guy and he said hi.
sports and bring out the extreme emotions sometimes
