Campbell's Soup Rant (angry vanity)
Me | Jan1, 2011 | DJMacWoW

Posted on 01/01/2011 10:36:34 AM PST by DJ MacWoW

My husband bought me some of my favorite soup, Campbell's Cream of Potato. My mouth got all ready and I sipped the first spoon. I spit it back in the bowl. It tasted TERRIBLE! I thought it was spoiled. Nope. Now! With Sea Salt Added! If I wanted sea salt I'd go float in the ocean!

I just discovered that they've done the same to Vegetarian Vegetable. No more Campbell's soup for me. And I wrote them to tell them where they can stick their sea salt! I don't buy Healthy Choice soups because they taste awful. So they are now going to force their idea of healthy on consumers? The left is taking over everything and forcing their ideas on us. I'm really angry. They stick their nose in every aspect of our lives.

I guess I'll just have to make my own.

Try hoagy62’s BAKED POTATO SOUP

It’s rich, but it’s wonderful.

My husband bought some Campbell's mushroom soup for a casserole at Thanksgiving.

Green bean casserole?

I looked at the can, which proclaimed it was "99% Fat Free!"

Yup. That'll do it!

We have been independent all our lives becuase our parents taught us how to cook, clean and take care of ourselves, our families and ourselves. Plain and simple.

Cooking from scratch saves a heck of a lot of money too. No box stuff here...just don’t like it. Wish everyone would go back to making their own foods. Nothing is better than walking into the house smelling homemade goodies on the stove and in the oven. Ahhh, heaven...otherwise known as HOME. :)

Same here, but the best smell of all is home made bread. Have been doing it for years and years and not by using any bread machine.

My husband adds quite a bit of bacon to his clam chowder. It’s heavenly.

Have you not witnessed the Government strong arming corporations to accede to their perceived wishes, one of which is lowered salt intake ostensibly to improve health and lower medical costs, especially for those on Medicare? Campbell just saw the PC handwriting on the wall and tried to get ahead of the curve. Think they thought that their lower salt products would be as tasty as before? The issue remains one of Government interference in what, up until now, has been our personal choice...just extend what you have seen the last 2 years into every facet of our living. Maybe you are comfortable with it, but I am not.

Your recipe sounds really great. I’ll give it a try.

Happy FReeping New Year Everyone!

I fry the bacon in the dutch oven I am gonna make the soup. Drain the grease off and deglaze the pan with a small amount of water to get all those good bacon chunks, before continuing the with rest.

I sounded so good I had to make it.

Looks to me as though this decision dates back nearly five years...was the Bush Administration strong-arming Campbell's into offering lower sodium alternatives?

Campbell soups to be made with lower sodium sea salt
By Lorraine Heller, 24-Feb-2006
The leading global soup firm this week announced that it is to slash salt content in its products by up to 45 percent, a move that underlines continued industry efforts to attract consumers with a wider variety of 'healthy' product options.

I stopped buying their soups last year...I liked the tomato and chicken noodle soups, then started adding other ingredients to both and it really screwed up the flavor!

Makes no difference who is pushing the ball to take away personal freedom, Bush, Obama, or all of the above, I am adamantly opposed to it...but can you really tell me that you think things are just as well for us now as 5 years ago when it comes to personal freedoms and personal choices?

Where did I make that assertion?

I simply posted evidence that your preferred narrative (i.e. "Campbell's switched to sea salt under government pressure") doesn't seem to have any factual basis. In reality, Campbell's conducted some market research and concluded that sea salt soup would sell better than the old product. No big conspiracy here.

there are FIVE THOUSAND MOMS out there now who buy only “organic” “vegan” “additive free” “no preservative” food for their little rug rats.

I knew a special ed teacher who wouldn't have anything in her house that didn't have an "organic" or "natural" label. She even stayed away from baby formula and breast fed her kids. Only thing was her kids were zombies after her weekend beer parties, sigh.

Have a nice, hot bowl of soup. :)

Are you on antibiotics? A fever seems to indicate antibiotics.
