Campbell's Soup Rant (angry vanity)
Me | Jan1, 2011 | DJMacWoW

Posted on 01/01/2011 10:36:34 AM PST by DJ MacWoW

My husband bought me some of my favorite soup, Campbell's Cream of Potato. My mouth got all ready and I sipped the first spoon. I spit it back in the bowl. It tasted TERRIBLE! I thought it was spoiled. Nope. Now! With Sea Salt Added! If I wanted sea salt I'd go float in the ocean!

I just discovered that they've done the same to Vegetarian Vegetable. No more Campbell's soup for me. And I wrote them to tell them where they can stick their sea salt! I don't buy Healthy Choice soups because they taste awful. So they are now going to force their idea of healthy on consumers? The left is taking over everything and forcing their ideas on us. I'm really angry. They stick their nose in every aspect of our lives.

I guess I'll just have to make my own.

Same sort of thing happened to Dr. Pepper. You can only find a limited number of places that still sell what we Texans call Dublin Dr. Pepper which is made with cane sugar. Sadly, the one place here that sells it has started to water it down so that it tastes awful.

I used to like those Progresso soups, which were offered for promo prices when they first came out 5 or so (don’t quote me-—it coulda been 10 yrs) years ago...meal for a buck, that type of thing. They certainly aren’t that kind of deal any more, but the point is moot...I’m far from being any kind of health nut (though I *DID* quit smoking 7 day ago! Yaaay!) but just knowing that I’m ingesting that much salt is no longer possible.

Homemade soup is the best.

michele can talk all she wants. We will fix what we want, when we want it and how we want it in this house. We have been independent all our lives becuase our parents taught us how to cook, clean and take care of ourselves, our families and ourselves. Plain and simple.

Cooking from scratch saves a heck of a lot of money too. No box stuff here...just don’t like it. Wish everyone would go back to making their own foods. Nothing is better than walking into the house smelling homemade goodies on the stove and in the oven. Ahhh, heaven...otherwise known as HOME. :)

You need to get the Mexican coke, it’s still made with cane sugar.

I wish I could. I don't even know how to go about doing that.

"...Sea salt is produced through evaporation of seawater, usually with little processing, which leaves behind some trace minerals and elements depending on its water source.

Ahh, the goodness of fish poop and dead critters...

“The new “low sodium” soups do not last very long, the use-by dates make them useless for long term emergency storage supplies.

Modern canning took off when it was discovered that by adding SALT to the pot, the temperature of the boiling mixture substantially increases;”

Didn’t know that...I appreciate the heads up!

Sea salt is only a vehicle for discussion...the issue is Government interference with every aspect of our lives...look at the provisions of MO’s school food program (better than parents can do, LOL) and the recently passed Food Safety Bill which a bunch of our RINO’s voted for...all an infringement on our freedoms.

Given the direction we are headed on all fronts, how long do you think it will be before a Government Voucher will be required in order to buy your nanny determined (conceptually, sort of like the ‘death panel’ thing) “limited” amount of salt?

Yup. Or real sugar instead of fructose.

Ask the dude’s hanging around the local Home Depot where the nearest bodega is.

Or move to New Mexico, you’ll still be in the middle of nowhere but the foods better. ;)

Still need that cream of mushroom for that tuna casserole cr** that fills up your belly for 24 hours!!

I do use Cream of Chicken for a casserole we make. Wonder if they've changed that yet. *sigh*

So is any of this being tested?? The China one has a terrible "bite" to it.

You can almost bet the China one hasn't been tested.
My wife bought a bag of chips with sea salt, neither of us liked it.....in the garbage it went.

I like putting cubed garlic bread in creamed soups... *broccoli, potato, asparagus*

Oh yeah! And in the winter it makes it "stick to your ribs". :-)

It isn’t that hard to make your own soup that is a lot better for you. Roast a whole chicken on Saturday. Enjoy a chicken dinner and then remove the remaining meat and boil the carasses with a carrot, onion and celery. Drain and strain the broth and put in the fridge. Defat the next day and make your soup with the leftover meat, some veggies and some rice, noodles or spuds. Yum. And made with real food. For the price of a couple of quarts of store chicken broth, you get a chicken dinner AND the soup.

I’ve cooked with sea salt for over ten years... this isn’t an Obama thing, too many people are allergic to MSG, which Campbells soups were (or are) loaded with.. I’ll have to check labels and see if they took it out. I’ve been a label reader for many, many years as my husband was very allergic to MSG and I have to limit additives due to kidney issues.

What's really bugging me is that more and more products are starting to use it.

Sea salt....the new Cilantro.
