Campbell's Soup Rant (angry vanity)
Me | Jan1, 2011 | DJMacWoW

Posted on 01/01/2011 10:36:34 AM PST by DJ MacWoW

My husband bought me some of my favorite soup, Campbell's Cream of Potato. My mouth got all ready and I sipped the first spoon. I spit it back in the bowl. It tasted TERRIBLE! I thought it was spoiled. Nope. Now! With Sea Salt Added! If I wanted sea salt I'd go float in the ocean!

I just discovered that they've done the same to Vegetarian Vegetable. No more Campbell's soup for me. And I wrote them to tell them where they can stick their sea salt! I don't buy Healthy Choice soups because they taste awful. So they are now going to force their idea of healthy on consumers? The left is taking over everything and forcing their ideas on us. I'm really angry. They stick their nose in every aspect of our lives.

I guess I'll just have to make my own.

MSG has a terrible effect on my digestive system. Can always tell when I get into it. Lot of deceptive labeling out there, so we have gotten to where we eat little prepackaged food.

Sea salt for me is “saltier” and I like it better and use less salt as a result. But I could see where different people have different taste reactions. And the canned soups without MSG are horrific. Don’t even bother trying them.

At the risk of getting rocks thrown at me also, sea salt makes things taste different and I don't like it. Plus I find it has some type of weird aftertaste.
What's really bugging me is that more and more products are starting to use it.

That would mean that the meat used in the soups have been ritually slaughtered in the muslim way.

If I wanted halal soup, I would go live in Saudi Arabia!" <<<<<

Anybody happen to know WHEN did Campbells go 'halal'?

Please be aware that Campbell’s soups are not food items. Unless you are starving in the desert and find a can, in which the liqud and potential protein might keep you alive, there is absolutely nothing within that can of any health or with anything your body needs. Mostly it is monosodium glutamate (yes, even in the cans that say it isn’t added — it hides under euphemisms), a taste-addictive neurotoxin that will contribute to you getting chronic diseases or problems with your brain. Its effects are cumulative.

Best to make your OWN soups, learn to like the taste of ACTUAL nutritious ingredients without MSG (everything will taste bland to you at first), freeze them in small containers so you can still heat up a portion for a quick meal.

(I have not found a single can of soup or carton of broth that truly has no MSG, except “organic vegetable broth,” which is so weak you might as well make your own.)

OMC, your vanity post is closing in on the 200 mark. Sea Salt is really a hot topic, evidently. ;)

That’s my take on it also. I’m not a lib and I use sea salt because of the trace minerals it contains and the fact that it’s not bleached (at least the brand I use isn’t). I say “to each his own” in the true conservative spirit!

Can't be too far from civilisation if you don't know how to make soup.

Where did you get the idea that I didn't know how?

My grandpa and I used to eat Cream of Potato. Just us. Sometimes I just want some.

It's 9 degrees outside and I can't find a fresh fruit bat anywhere.

Golly I'm sorry! I sympathize. Really I do. Kinda. lol

Helooooooh!!! Yes, EXACTLY. MAKE YOUR OWN SOUP and...a lot of other dishes too. Make your own burgers too and your own fries....they are the best. Homemade foods once again...how original. We do it all the time and have all our lives. Go for it!!! You DO have choices. :)

I doubt customers were complaining about the soup tasting the same for decades.

But it's entirely possible that, through market research, Campbell's discovered that most people prefer sea salt. That could be due to taste, perception, or some combination of both.

I’ve been buying Progresso soups, and within that brand I get the soups labeled “No MSG”.

I’ve been unable to stomache Campbell’s for a long time.

FOOD RELATED ADDITIONAL RANT: A few days ago, my husband made Pillsbury Cinnamon Rolls for breakfast. They were horrible. So bad, I retrieved the can from the garbage to check the freshness date. Oh, they were still considered fresh, as it was dated into February. So Pillsbury must intend to make this product taste awful.

I’ve been telling the husband for a long time to stop buying Pillsbury stuff (turnovers and rolls of all kinds), since they must have altered the ingredients in the last few years. I suspect the food nazis ordered Pillsbury to alter the shortening portion of the old recipe.

I still have good luck with Pepperidge Farm’s frozen apple or cherry turnovers. They come out of the oven looking and tasting like a bakery turnover.

Just say no to Campbells and Pillsbury.

That was my mom’s favorite soup.

Have you noticed green cleaning products don’t work either. I won’t buy them.

Did you read what you posted? The Mayo clinic admits that there are people who do have reactions to MSG. My reaction is short lived, maybe 30 minutes to an hour requires no treatment. I have known people who's face swells, it is called “Chinese food reaction” other people get a severe headache. It happens, obviously not to you but as far as that dinner invitation you offered me, forget it, I'm not coming.

I have two sea salts. One is Mediterranian sea salt and says trace minerals but no iodine. The other says "Product of China".

So is any of this being tested?? The China one has a terrible "bite" to it.

New York City has laid down the gauntlet....can the liberal nannies of the Federal Government be far behind? I am simply stating that there is some sort of grand idea that the Government Bureaucrats know more than we do about what we eat...how many billions is MO getting spent on school meal programs so the children can have healthy food...and that parents don’t know how to properly feed their children, they need Government supervision...how’s that for Government involvement...or the recently passed Food Safety Act...it is full of stuff that has not been told to the public for reasons which seem clear...more nanny take over of every aspect of our lives...
