Hello everyone!
it's time for my quarterly "What Are You reading Now?" survey. As you know, I consider Freepers to be among the more well-read of those of us out in cyberspace. As a result, I like to find out what you're reading.
It can be anything...a technical journal, a NY TImes bestseller, a trashy pulp novel, in short, it can be anything. Please do not defile this thread by posting "I'm reading this thread". It became very unfunny a long long time ago.
I'll start. I went to the library and picked up a copy of "Sam Walton, Made In America: My Story" by Sam Walton. I'm not the entreprenurial type myself and I'm only about 20% of the way thru the book - but I find it interesting how he built Wal-Mart to be such a powerhouse of a corporation. Some of the ideas he talks about can actually be put to use in almost any type of corporate environment.
Well, what are YOU reading now?

Man’s Search for Meaning-Frankl

finished Robin Olds autobio on my kindle...great book. Highly recommend it
I have about 20-25 other books in the queue right now....
The color Of Lightning -— a true story about an African-american former slave in Texas who rescued his wife and children from the comanche. It’s fictionalized but based on fact. Amazing story.
Just finished A Brief History of Time by Stephen Hawking. Understood about 2/3 of it even though it was “dumbed down” for the common folk. Just starting The Camel Club on CD by David Baldacci (I’ve read a couple of others of this series but never got around to reading the first one until now).
“Hell’s Corner” by David Baldacci (one of my two favorite fiction writers). Next up is “What the Night Knows”, the newest from Dean Koontz (my other favorite.) Just finished “The Book Thief” and “Cutting for Stone”. No spies, evil CIA or FBI bosses or hero special forces soldiers. (Actually, a nice change of pace.)
“The Windup Girl,” by Paolo Bacigalupi.
yeah, i still love going to the bookstore, too...but this kindle thing.....best thing since sliced bread...
my current printed library is about 950 volumes...and my wife said we are running out of room to store them all...so the kindle makes alot of sense at this point of my reading addiction.
I suspect my complete library, printed and electronic, will exceed 1500 by the end of the year. the free stuff for the kindle is incredible! I love this thing... :)
I’m 150 pages into “Dead or Alive”
Over the past week, via hardcover books, not a kindle fan:
Surface Details by Iain M. Banks
Start Up Nation-The Story of Israel’s Economic Miracle by Dan Senor and Saul Singer
The Israel Test by George Gilder
Predictably Irrational The Hidden Forces that Shape our Decisions by Dan Ariely
The Drunkard’s Walk How Randomness Rule our Life by Leonard Mlodinow
House of Suns by Alastair Reynolds
The Last Undercover by Bob Hamer
The Origins of Totalitariansim by Hannah Arndt
I am reading the Elizabeth George mystrey’s. I’m totally obsessed with them... I’ve been ordering them three at a time used from Amazon, and become slightly unglued if I finish them all before the next shipment arrives.
What am I going to read when I’mdsone with them all?
Just finished:
Daniel Silva: Moscow Rules
Daniel Silva: Rembrandt Affair
Vince Flynn: American Assassin
Dinesh D’Souza: Roots of Obama’s Rage
Just started:
Phillip Lee Williams:The Flower Seeker
Bob Woodward: Obama’s Wars
Robert Spencer: Stealth Jihad
Cloud and Townsend: Safe People
So many books, so little time.
Speaking as one who has read all of her mysteries, it is the pits because she only publishes a Det. Lynley mystery every two years. There is one due out in 2011, around May.
Do you like Cutting For Stone? It’s my bookgroup book for this month (January), and I haven’t even started it.
I know the feeling. Try Deborah Crombie.
Just finished the 2 newest Reacher books.
You know they are a good read when I read a combined 850 pages in 16 hours!
When are they finally going to make Reacher movies??????
Cheers and Happy New Year,
knewshound
