My son is getting married the weekend of Valentine's Day. He and is wife to be have not yet decided on a honeymoon location. Travel agents are steering them into one of those all inclusive, security fenced in places in Aruba or Cancun etc. I suggested a Cruise, but my son, a plumber and avid golfer, I think would probably go nuts after a couple days without doing something physical. My brother suggest Maui. Staying in San Francisco a day and then flying to there. I say anywhere but Mexico. The drug wars, etc have spilled into places like Alcapulco...so I'd say it would be crazy to go there.

Lots of safe places to go to in MEXICO.
I spent a week in Cabo San Lucas in October. Stayed at the Hilton, which has a spectacular ocean view and one of those majestic infinity pools. Great nightlife, dacing and bar scene downtown for “kids” too.
If you have a timeshare, you can trade for a week there like I did.
We also go to Puerto Vallarta a lot.
Lots of water activities (snorkling, deep sea fishing, scuba diving, boat rides) as well as plenty of golf. Great restaurants on the cliffs and in the hills with terrific sunset views for honeymooners too!
Never had a problem in the 25-years that I’ve been going there. There’s even a COSTCO so you can load up on alcohol and other supplies...
Alaska. Furs, fireplaces, snowmobiles, hunting and fishing,sledding, and hopefully they’ll get to play in a massive blizzard.
A few years ago, we spent a week at a bed & breakfast up in Vermont in the middle of February (that included Valentines Day). Room included a jacuzzi and a working fireplace as well as floor to ceiling windows that made us feel like we were in a snow globe when it was snowing outside. Well, we went through a quarter cord of wood that week and we didn't leave the room much except to go eat.
Another time we spend a few days at a ski resort up by Burlington, VT. Once again, the jacuzzi,a fireplace and lots of snow and we didn't ski very much!
I have loved every cruise I’ve been on. My only regrets have been not adding a day on each end. You come home on Sunday... and then back to work... that always sucked wet dog fur...

Nope. Been there three times in the last 2-1/2 years. Love the place.

Maybe but it's very organized crime. You can chose to participate or not, it's up to you. There are no carjackings or random kidnapping for ransom. The resorts know who is buttering their bread so security is very, very good even if you go off property. You'll have a 'handler' who for around 20 bucks, plus cab fare, makes sure you get where you're going, have a good time, and get back safely.
It was also about half the price of Hawaii.
We're planning our next trip there now.

Go to someplace you can go to again. Many people opt for once in a lifetime exoitc places. But it becomes unlikely to go there ever again. If there is a nice place nearby that is not too expensive, the couple can return there in their later years.
Ask them to stay in the United States - we need the business. Congrats to them

Seriously — I’m not sure that honeymoon plans should be based on whether their is a golf course available nearby, unless both husband and wife are avid golfers.
On the other hand, my wife and I played tennis every day on our honeymoon — which for some reason seems to me to be more of a “couples” activity.
It’s a myth that there is nothing physical to do on a cruise. Most have full gyms, running tracks, and a lot have more exotic activities like bungee jumping, wave riding, rock wall climbing, etc. Also, port stops will have things like horse back riding, rafting, hiking, etc. All it takes is $$$ for activities beyond the running and gym. It depends on the route and ship.
Areana Villas is good to rent from, if Portia is still there. We're rented the Rice House twice, and it has a pool, but I think you are looking for somewhere with staff, to make the honeymoon relaxed and trouble free, and these are kind of second and third and older marriage type rentals.
Now, we go to Wyoming or Montana. Not really honeymoon areas, at least to me.
Last places on earth I would visit would be Mexico, followed by Jamaica, followed by Haiti....
It's his honeymoon. I'm sure he can think of something physical to keep him occupied.

She plays, but not avidly. I think nothing is sexier than a girl dressed up in golfing attire, who loves and knows the rules of golf...and plays to beat you.... Kind of like a Katherine Hepburn type...
