I am trying to relax and watch Star Wars on a beautiful Christmas morning. However, my enjoyment quickly turned to disgust and I had to send the children out of the room and change the channel.
Star Wars, obviously an American icon and children's favorite, was interrupted every 8 minutes or so, to sell female self pleasure devices, i.e., vibrators. When they were not selling vibrators, they were selling some kind of lubricated condom guaranteeing his and her fantastic pleasure.
Now keep in mind this is in the morning, before noon, on Christmas morning during Star Wars.
Who is more likely to be watching Star Wars on a Saturday morning, Christmas morning? Children? or sex perverts?
I can only make the logical and natural assumption that Trojan and Spike TV are intentionally marketing these products to children.
I am a grown man and these commercial were grossing me out. I know what women are doing with that penis shaped vibrator. While I don't mind when it is 'in context', it is not something I want to think about on a Saturday Christmas morning while trying to watch Luke and Hans fight Darth and save the princess with the kids.
These commercials should never air before 10PM and never on a Saturday morning during children's programming. It is just simple common decency. What is wrong with these people!?
I am a grown man and far from a 'prude' but this just disgusting and it ruined the movie for everyone. Next time, I will just rent it.
You know, I saw that too, last night — Christmas Eve!! I think it was on AMC, they were doing old movies, but they were interspersed with French Tickler ads, one after another, really disgusting sex ads. It grossed me out, but since we now have THREE hand-helds, I could not figure out how to change the channel and my husband was wrapping presents.
Yes, you are right. I didn’t know Spike was like that.
But even so, forget about banning or regulating anything, my argument was for simple common decency.
Imagine yourself as the advertising director. Just as a normal person, especially a parent, if Trojan came to you and said they want to advertise sex products on Christmas morning during a movie popular with children, wouldn’t you, just as a human being, say, “You know, that might not be appropriate.” You’ll get a lot more sales by advertising in a primarily adult time-slot with primarily adult programming.
What about all the kids watching this stuff unsupervised. They just don’t need to be exposed to this stuff. It is inappropriate for the time and the program.
It is the loss of common decency that I protest. They shouldn’t have to be forced not to put this stuff on early Saturday morning. They should just know.
But it is true that I did not know the vulgar reputation of the channel. It is already on parental block.
BUTTHEAD: Three!!?? I don't need more than ONE!!
BEAVIS: That's 'cause you're still trying to figure out how to work the ONE you have, Butthead, yuk-yuk!
Oh, and a Merry Christmas to you and yours!
Haha, I have a card on my rolodex with little drawings: red button/ small silver hand-held; left/top button on black hand-held with silver bottom; volume on black h-h.
Pathetic.
Porn is as porn does. You might like showing it to your kids..we don’t.
I said, "Do you remember when we visited that boy from your Scout Troop? He was worried because his Bearded Lizard was laying in the bottom of the cage, wouldn't eat or drink and wouldn't move when he touched him?"
"Yeah. We remember".
"Well, boys, that is reptile dysfunction."
"Ohhh!"
>>>Porn is as porn does. You might like showing it to your kids..we dont.
So why watch Spike-TV any day, any time? You just want the opportunity to be offended, then run here and whine about being offended??
I don’t watch Spike-TV because I’m cognizant enough to know it for what it is. IF I want to see the StarWars movies - I have DVDs...
Everyone understands that. The problem here isn’t the programming or the commercials that the OP found offensive. The only real problem was that the OP didn’t know what he was watching. Spike is for adults, period. No sane parent would let a young child watch the channel. It’s very adult oriented. My example holds: Being surprised at this is EXACTLY like being surprised to see boobs on Playboy.
Who needs Playboy channel to see boobs? Plenty around here... ;-)
I’m going to pick a little nit with you on what Spke-TV is... yeah, it’s adult, but specifically adults that still think like middle school boys...
...because every day we face...A 1,000 Ways to Die.
Cheers!
...oh, and Merry Christmas!
“He was worried because his Bearded Lizard was laying in the bottom of the cage, wouldn’t eat or drink and wouldn’t move when he touched him?”
I thought you might be going somewhere else with that!
While I agree Spike TV is a place kids shouldn't be, the options where you CAN take your kids for some good wholesome TV are dwindling.
Almost every channel carries ED commercials at times when children watch and during TV shows like Andy Griffith at 5 PM.
Changing the channel has become don't watch TV at all.
Jim Morrison of the Doors was the Lizard King ya know!
The Vermont Country Store that grandmother of catalogs, is now selling vibrators.
No discretion anymore.
If you have this trash coming into your home via some cable or broadcast means, time to turn it off and find better and different entertainment.
Havent had broadcast or cable for 22 years. Didnt miss a thing.
Nothing says Happy Birthday Jesus like a flame war over vibrators and bandwidth.
OFFICIAL POST OF THE DAY...RUNNING UP TO BECOME POST OF THE WEEK.
