Turn Off Fox News E-mail (barf alert)
www.yahoo.com | Dec. 22, 2010 | James Rucker

Posted on 12/22/2010 6:05:51 PM PST by Michael.SF.

In the coming days, many of us will be spending time with family and close friends. You might find yourself in a house with Fox News on the TV, or you might find yourself in the company of a family member who likes to talk about the "truth" coming from Fox. You could also be with folks who understand the damage Fox does, but haven’t heard about this campaign. Any of these could be a great opportunity to talk about why you don’t watch Fox and why you’re part of the movement to get it turned off in public places. And if you have any good conversations, let us know.

There's no need to be confrontational. The person you’re talking with may not be receptive to what you have to say — and that’s ok. But you might be surprised. This is about sharing your concerns and beliefs, and hearing the thoughts of someone you love. When people are approached respectfully by someone they like and trust, it creates space for them to think and change.

Here are some pointers:

Remain calm. The point here isn't to start an argument — it's to share information. Even though some people may be hostile to what you have to say, keeping your cool can help defuse tense situations and make even skeptics receptive to what you have to say.

Just the facts. We’re often tempted to use inflammatory language when describing Fox News and their tactics — "evil" or "racist," for example. But think of the impact that this language might have on someone you’re trying to win over to your point of view. Does the fact that they watch Fox News make them "evil" or "racist"? Better to stick to the facts by describing what Fox News Channel does — stoking racial fear, helping to spread dangerous conspiracy theories, and distorting the truth. You can refer to our flyer "The Case Against Fox" for a few examples of what Fox News does, and the impact of their actions.

Listen to what others have to say. If you want to be listened to, then you should also be willing to listen to others' perspectives. If they state something untrue, you can and should offer facts to correct the record when you can — but not until after they've finished their thought. And remember, the point isn’t to get into an argument or even prove that you're correct. It's to share your point of view.

Offer more information. If the folks you talk to are interested in learning more about our campaign, just have them check out TurnOffFox.org. They can sign up for the campaign at that website. The holiday season provides a unique opportunity to help more people understand what Fox is, how it poisons national discourse, and what role everyday people can play in stopping the damage.

After you have these conversations (even with those who already understand the issue), we would love to hear how they went. Tell us about it by clicking the link below:

Thanks and Happy Holidays!

OK, I admit I keep tabs on these guys just to see what they are up to. Can you believe how incrediably afraid they are of freedome of information and how little they think of the people that are on their side. The above e-mail was sent by one James Rucker. Here is his e-mail address:

Why is it no conservative ever tries to take libards off the air?

What are they so afraid of?

We love it when libtards talk, it makes our job so much easier.

CNN, NBC, ABC, MSNBC, and CNBC are all on in public at different places. CNN is on in every airport and some hotels only carry CNN.

Imagine the depth of depravity a person would have to have reached, to think one voice of opposition was verging on the criminal.

Doesn’t this qualify as some sort of mental illness? It would have to be at least one manifestation of a real problem.

If anyone is that ill-mannered in my home, they will be thrown out, family or not.
We don’t need such bossy, nanny-statist clap-trap at our family gatherings. And the will would be changed the next morning.

I think color of change tried to do the boycott against either BOR or Beck. They're just flat evil. And I've never, ever seen Fox news played in a public place. Have you?

Fox isn’t right all the time, but they do tell both sides to an arguement. Whenever I watch the other news programs I have to quickly change the channel or end up throwing something through it.

Is it any wonder liberals have the reputation of being killjoys, buzzkills, and those things no one wants to see floating in a punchbowl? Thankfully, I don't have to worry about this at my family's Christmas. For those who do:

Sure I have. On most military installations I’ve been to it’s been the default channel.

Why is Yahoo peddling this manure?

I use Yahoo as my e-mail provider, they had nothing to do with this as the e-mail was sent to me.

Posting rules require that section to be filled in.

I clicked on the yahoo link and it went to turnfoxoff. It already had a name on that data base so I just went ahead and said no one I have talked to is going to quit watching FOX. Oh, well, did my part.

Thank God we are who we are. We will have seven adults and seven children with us this Christmas. Of these fourteen, thirteen watch Fox all the time and the other one, a screaming liberal, does watch it about half and half with CNN. Surprisingly he complains that CNN is too biased.
