No ThingMaker? I want to find an old ThingMaker set just to smell that smell again....

The Evel Knievel toy should have been ranked way higher. If it is the one I am thinking of - where you put the cycle in a contraption, turned the crank, and let him go. That was just an awesome toy.

I’ve noticed that Technic sets have slowly receded from the market. It’s a sad thing, what kids these days will miss.

They're a bit pricey, given that they are really still just plastic bits. There are still some sets available on Lego's site.

How in the hell does he have ‘Teletubbies’ on the list and not GI Joe?

I burned my finger more than once on the Thingmaker.

A friend of mine had one of those. We supplemented it with a couple of bags of dime store Army men...and some firecrackers (those were for use against the invading forces).

The memorable smell of the ThingMaker wouldn’t happen to be burning fingers, would it?

The writer must be in the UK. "Action Man" is the UK version of GI Joe.

Wahoo is not on there (later remarketed as Aggravation). Our families have spent many thousands of hours playing this game over the past 6 decades (with considerably evolved rules of play including backing up to knock off opponents). By the time I was growing up, everyone had made their own boards out of masonite and had jars of many different marbles and a lot of different dice. My brother has my grandfather’s ivory die. Recently I found that this was also a big game in West Africa and Iraq.

My dad got me one of those when I was six. We must have played every day for about a year. Found some of the guys a while ago buried in a box of stuff in my parent’s attic.

They still make the Creepy Crawlers http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=4049948.

There's also something called the Martian Matter Alien Maker set (my son got that as a present two years ago). It's pretty cool, but his then 2-year-old sister got ahold of it. Whoops. http://www.amazon.com/Martian-Matter-Alien-Maker-Playset/dp/B000XTPNTQ
