What if Sarah doesn't run ? And why wouldnt she ?

Posted on 12/17/2010 9:36:35 PM PST by se_ohio_young_conservative

I have not posted a vanity for awhile now and I post this in good faith. I was thinking earlier about what the politcal lands would look like with Sarah Palin not in the next Presidential race.

I don't think it would be good.

I think she has a duty to run unless family reasons dictate otherwise. I hope and pray that she is not buying the media narritive that she is unelectable. I know she is a very smart person. But I hope she has more confidence than to give any thought to the idea that she might not be able to win. Any candidate might not be able to win. But you don't know until you try.

Other than family and personal reason. What are political reasons she shouldn't run in your opinion ?

I think the reason she should is short and simple. This country needs her and we are running out of time.

If she doesn,t run. I don't think I could stomach politics and I doubt I ever vote again. At one time I dreamed of serving in congress as a kid. But if we are a country where the media can destroy my politcal career and hurt my family. Why in the hell would I do it.

I am saying that Sarah Palin represents all of us underdogs and regular people. It would be demoralizing to the tea party and conservatives if 1. she doesnt run.. or 2. she lets the media define her image.

the stakes are too high for politics as usual.. I honestly feel like these are life or death moments for our country.

I have a serious question for you. I won’t challenge that you’re smarter than Palin. I’d like to know why you think she’s not smart. I’m not impressed by her India-Pakistan bona fides or what she has said of what she knows of Islam as a political ideology, but I don’t think she has emptied the contents of her head to be evaluated by us, and so I wonder what makes you or others say that she’s not smart. Judging by what she has done in the petroleum arena and the testicular fortitude that it took to get there, I must conclude that she’s crazy like a fox and would like to know how you arrive at your position.

Thank you.

As an American who went to Europe when I was a teenager...and an American who went to an International School...I came to love MY country more than I might have if I had taken it for granted.

The Cold War was ON when I went overseas.

My father had international colleagues and we hosted many dinners at our home.

He used to sit me at the Francophone table. I speak French.

I feel fortunate that I had the experience I had.

You may think Europe is Godless...but my family had the good fortune to host International diplomats.

There was one evening that the difficult French guy was in our living room decrying the “Stupid Americans” who “don’t learn the language...”

My father came to me in the kitchen (doing dishes) and asked me to go talk to him.

I did.

Je parle francais. I was fluent in French and only a teenager. But I asked (let’s call him Monsieur Legrand) so many questions that I finally had him backed into the corner. Then I told him to pardonnez moi...I had to go do some more dishes...

He approached my father and said, “Meester...K...your daughter...she inteemidate meee!”

You see... when we are FACED with bold anti-American shite...we CAN deconstruct it.

I love my country. This is my country. I will ALWAYS defend it. I will demand GREAT leaders.

She blew the interview with Couric. You need to be able to tell the journalist what you read. How about “The Wall Street Journal”, “Time”...even “USA Today”?

She’s *not* smart. That’s why there is a team there right now trying to educate her.

With regards to energy policy...she’s pretty good...obviously she has read Gingrich’s books.

The problem is that she is, in my opinion, already too damaged....

There’s just not a presidential thing happening, IMO.

This post reminds me of Caroline Kennedy's answer when the question was posed to her: What qualifies you to be NY Senator. Between many umms, you knows and i thinks, she got in her 2 qualifications, such as they were. She had raised her children, she said earnestly, plus her family had always been dedicated to public service and she knew everybody in the Senate.

I know you won't take being compared to Caroline as a compliment, but I don't mean it as a put-down either. The fact is, when you say that where you lived or that Reagan is your hero ipso facto makes you smarter than Palin, you render yourself Caroline Kennedyesque.

two reasons she shouldn’t run

One, she is not qualified (neither is Obama and you see what is happening because of this).

Two: It would destroy her family. On the Alaska show she mentioned how Bristol needed to get away from all the stress from the tabloids. The gutter press is already claiming Willow is pregnant. And then there are the jokes about her retarded son.

I say let her do what she can do best: be a Tv commentator. She is young, and has another 30 years before she is “too old” to be president.

I think so too. If she runs, the old right way will be immediately retired and the new right way will have been established. I'm told that is how one evaluates a leader.

“When you say that where you lived or that Reagan is your hero ipso facto makes you smarter than Palin, you render yourself Caroline Kennedyesque. “

I’m not sure what you are conveying here.

I believe that Palin is NO Reagan. Some people seem to think she is.

One of the things that bothers me is that she has made herself into a “reality show” star, now.

Do you think Reagan would have done that?

What Governor Palin does best is Govern, she is definitely qualified to run for President, more qualified than Mitt Romney for instance.

I love your concern for her family, especially as you post a rumor about the young daughter and insult the young boy.

You won Jeopardy twice, but you don’t know that her degree is in Journalism and that it took 6 years to get because she didn’t go every semester?

Compared to past Presidents within the nuclear age, I don’t see where she is any less qualified than Bill Clinton was. or Harry Truman.

Reagan was forced by the FCC to resign from his Cowboy, TV show when he was already formally running for Governor, it was considered an unfair political advantage.

If ...she continues where she left off at the Republician Convention, ripping and disrespecting odumbi, she will win. If ....she continues to ride her America-is-Great Stallion, she will win.

She needs to show people what America was and can be again! As opposed to odumbi’s what America was and shouldn’t be again.

She needs to lead Americans into new positive American Ideals that are the ones we always have had instead of listening to what the polls say Americans believe.

“What are political reasons she shouldn’t run in your opinion ?”

Because she recognizes that with all the media exposure orchestrated about her, her unfavorables haven’t come down at all.

And for that reason, she recognizes she would be defeated.

So she decides to not run, but to use her influence to help get a solid conservative nominated; one with a better chance of winning than she has.

I’m surprised that someone who won Jeopardy twice missed the meaning, but I’ll explain. Caroline came up with stupid criteria and so did you. Winning Jeopardy, including somebody as a dear dear friend, declaring that Reagan is your hero or that your father worked for him are not qualifications for the Presidency, as you well know. Caroline has a highly inflated opinion of herself. You’re illustrating that you do, too.

As to media, Reagan had the choice to appear on TV, but chose radio as his medium instead. There had been a paradigm shift in terms of media. Many old forms are now obsolete. Who even watches CNN and MSNBC, CBS, NBC or ABC anymore? I don’t presume to know what Reagan would have done to rehabilitate his image, but I know that it’s in the public consciousness now that Palin is dumb because she said she can see Russia from her house. Well, at the shortest point, the distance between Alaska and Russia is 1.74 miles. On the reality show, in showing the Gosselin kids that from somewhere in Alaska, they would be able to see Russia, she again challenged her detractors to verify that. I don’t know what the perfect vehicle would be to correct all the falsehoods, but since I don’t know of any, I’ll accept the reality TV vehicle.

I think the site where I took the test was in Hollywood . I think it was at a Hollywood boulevard address . If they were doing the testing at various locations throughout the country, as I am told they do now , I was unaware of it at that time.

I navigate Southern California , by landmark and tourist trap. Disney land is in Anaheim, Gene Autry's museum is close to the Chrystal cathedral, so on. So where Hollywood ends and Culver City something else begins I don't know.

My friend had been wanting to be on the show for years, and wrote to schedule the test. He got something of an "acceptance letter" . It really looked quite formal, as if it was really something exclusive. We lived in the Northwest and made a Vegas road trip out of it.

I wasn't planning on taking the test, but when we got there, they were not all that exclusive after all.

I had gone to college and law school with this friend. He is pretty bright, and very knowledgeable, but he has always had exam anxiety. He seemed to freeze up and only answered about a third or so. That test was fast paced. I don't think anyone finished all the questions in the allotted time , but I came close and felt I had done okay. I guess not.

People still laugh about us taking the Jeopardy test, and Freepers here sneer at your mention of it, but it takes a lot of broad based knowledge, quick recall and an ability to perform under pressure that not everyone has.

I would point out that Palin did not say that she could see Russia from her house, Tina Fay said that on SNL, What Palin said was “you can see Russia from Alaska”

do favorible ratings really make or break a candidate ? im asking seriously. are people unfavorible to her personally or for her as President. Because if it personal, she can’t change it. if it is political doubts.. she can do better and change minds
