Do any Freepers have good advice on good cellphones?
Ideally it would:
* interface easily with my PC so I can do contact management on the PC. Otherwise it has to have a full keyboard to type in names
* have a volume wheel on the side, with a central click position for standard volume, but easily changeable when needed
* otherwise just be simple & do the job
One that doesn’t give you brain cancer?

What’s a good cellphone?

Palm Centro, but it’s obsolete.
As soon as you sped’d a volume WHEEL on the side, you greatly constrained your choices.
Looks like you’ll end up with one of the new Blackberry-esque devices.
Screen above, tactile keyboard below, good integration to PC and enterprise apps.
Not much ‘fun’ and an “OK” phone. But good for business use as a productivity tool.
Make sure the bluetooth headset works well with it.
Don’t get a Droid! They are only good for social networking and don’t interface at all well with Outlook or standard business software.
I have a Blackberry, which is a bit clunky but works well with business apps. They have come out with a new one that has a touch screen, but I don’t know what it’s like because my carrier doesn’t have it.
The Windows phone looks good and has gotten good reviews, but again, my carrier doesn’t have it yet so I haven’t tried it out.
The I-Phone now works pretty well with business apps, from what I understand, and there are thousands of other neat apps you can get for it. My carrier doesn’t have it, of course, otherwise I would probably get one. When my contract expires, I will probably change carriers and get an I-Phone.
HTC makes some phones that seem like a good fit for you. I’ve been extremely happy with mine.
sped’d (sic) should read spec’d
we regret the error.
Side volume controls and a drop down keyboard. Plus, it’s a Windows 7 Phone!!

Looks like they come mostly packaged with a service. If you have a preferred telco then you may want to start there to narrow your choice.
I thought that I needed that tactile keyboard and stressed over it for a long time but then my son who was a texting sort of guy and thought he had to have the tactile keyboard so he could text without looking, bought an iPhone. He and I and our whole family now have them and there’s no looking back. All whom I know who have gone to iPhone cannot conceive of returning to any other type of phone. So just go in a play with one at an Apple store. Also, I use Mobileme which is a contact and calendar interface with the built in app on my phone and I can pull it up anywhere (assuming I’m without my phone which I never am) and look at my info. I need to connect Mr. Mercat to it so we can share calendars.
I’m with you.
Mr Trisham has a Blackberry. He loves it.
Volume wheel on the side? That is where I’m lost. For a platform, I would recommend the Droid as it is the most flexible.
I have an app called Touchdown and it works great with Outlook. I also have apps to view most MS created documents and spreadsheets. I haven't really seen a thing I could do on my BlackBerry I couldn't do on my Droid.
I have a Motorola i465, and use Boost Mobile’s service. Works well enough and the service can’t be beat ($50 a month, unlimited talk text and web without the 20%-25% in additional fees you pay other companies). They also offer the Blackberry and an android smart phone.
Ask Manson!
I would like to know this too!
