On Sunday there was a thread that somehow ended up with postings of various different music videos. One of those videos really caught my attention, but I forgot to bookmark it, and now I cannot locate it here or youtube.
It was a group of 3 girls with beehive hairdos, and I believe they were from Winnipeg Manitoba.
I can't remember anything else but the ethereal quality of the music.
The "video" (actually just a sound file with a still of the girls' album cover) was absolutely fascinating, using several different tempos at the same time, then overlapping and melding together, just to work themselves apart again.
There was a comment that this group were the ultimate masters of polyrhythm, and it is obvious to any Zappa fan that these girls were influential in his early 1970's work
Please read the above post.
As a fellow Zappa fan, perhaps you might ping the list to see if we can come to a consensus on my little problem?
RZZZzzz!
Five bands from Winnipeg:
1. The Guess Who
2. The Watchmen
3. The Weakerthans
4. Crash Test Dummies
5. Econoline Crush
Do you clear out your history when you close your browser?
Sounds intriguing.
And do let us know what band it is when you find out.

Ping! Does anyone remember seeing the post Don W. is looking for?
BTW - Anyone wanting added to the Zappa ping list let me know.
And since I brought you all here, I should probably offer up some ear candy.
Just use that youtube search box for the other 10 segments.
Thanks for the ping and the link. I was given the Zappa Plays Zappa DVD for Christmas last year, great gift!
Not that this gets you any closer to the answer you were looking for, but if you’re into Polyrhythm and things like it (and like jazz at all); Dave Brubek’s Time Out album would be right up your alley (if you didn’t already know of it / own it). I saw a great bio the other day on him with Clint Eastwood “hosting”.
I have two folks to thank directly:
#1 Slump Tester for so graciously using the Zappa list at my request, and
#2 Slings and Arrows, who NAILED IT in under 2 hours, even before the ping went out.
SKR, yes my browser is set to automatically clear itself upon shutdown.
Golux, you missed two that I can think of, though they are strongly related to the first band you mention: Bachman Turner Overdrive, and Bachman/Cummings.
For those who have no idea what I am talking about but are still here, listen to this

Dang, I forgot to include you in my thanks.
Here’s another example of the genre

Fun diversion ping. :)
Is that sentence that poorly constructed?
Girls > Zappa
You’re very welcome.
So the girls are quite ancient now, huh?
I guess you’ve already looked through the pages in your browser’s history for it.
I would think so. I found this on wikipedia about the Shaggs.

I was mistaken in thinking they were from earlier in the decade, but nonetheless, you can definitely hear their influence in some of FZ’s music.
