High levels of the so-called "good" cholesterol may lower the risk of developing Alzheimer's disease, according to a new study.
In the study, those with high levels of high-density lipoprotein (HDL), the good kind of cholesterol, were 60 percent less likely to develop Alzheimer's disease than those with lower HDL levels.
"The higher your HDL, the more protected you are from Alzheimer's disease, apparently," said study researcher Dr. Christiane Reitz, of Columbia University.
The researchers found no evidence that high levels of "bad" cholesterol, known as low-density lipoprotein (LDL), affected a person's risk of Alzheimer's.

Good video. I like Dr. Mercola. His website has an enormous amount of info on it.
Coconut Oil, like palm oil, is full of saturated fat. Its the last thing you should have.
“Three plant-based exceptions to this rule are the tropical oils - coconut, palm and palm kernel oils, and should avoid using them.”

It depends on what's the type of dementia. If there's reason to believe it's due to a vascular dementia, I would certainly consider using a statin.

Dark chocolate, almonds, coconut - the new ‘Three food groups?” ;o)
Coconut oil is found to be the absolute healthiest fat, along with butter from pastured (grass fed) cows, or even meat fat from organically fed free-range chickens or organically fed grass fed animals.
In fact, coconut oil is supposed to be able to reverse Alzheimers symptoms at the start of the disease. This is why they are using it to try and make a patentable drug, because coconut oil is cheap and plentiful and drug companies can’t market it.
Make sure to get cold pressed organic oil. One reason why you should get it is because most every other oil goes bad when heated, and gets rancid at room temp. Not coconut oil. Butter is ok too.
For cold things like salads, some daily cold-pressed olive oil is fine for you. Do not buy large bottles or common brands of olive oil, though, because there is some law that allows them to mix in other, harmful and cheaper oils into those. That is why they are cheaper. Buy the specialty olive oils. Use them only for cold things. Guess what? You should Never look for discounts on edible things, because how you eat is how your body is Made. Your food becomes you. Skimp on everything else but not on what builds you (and your future health).
