We know that the New York Jets are a team that likes to be loud and proud about their exploits. They're a team with a lot of swagger even when things are not going well, which they haven't been of late. Less than a week after losing 45-3 to the New England Patriots on Monday Night football, Rex Ryan's bunch lost 10-6 to the Miami Dolphins, and did so in a much more embarrassing fashion...
Go to this link for the rest of the story as this video must be seen to be believed. A member of the Jets coaching staff deliberately trips a Miami Dolphin player who is running up the sideline to cover a punt return.

Dandy Don was classic! Funny story.
I met Woody many years ago. He complimented my photography (cheerleaders and sports teams) and asked for my name. I have a Polish name. When he didn’t understand it after the second time he got angry. No kidding.
I then realized that he had one HOT temper.
The part I like about that video is how the player runs back to the bench and then tries to hide behind another player.
Why else would you try to take out a guy that wasn't on the field?
The local sports station had a guy call in and say that he
grew with him. He said that he was a juicer and a A-hole!
Thought you’d like the DM post above
But for the apology, this coach would be in the clear. The video evidence alone does not show this was intentional.
Looks like the league will have to send out a memo reminding teams that it is against the rules for coaches to trip the other teams players.
I watched the video several times, and apart from the fact that the Jets coach ADMITTED tripping the Dolphins player intentionally, it is also very clear that he flexed his leg just enough to make contact with the Dolphins player's knee/thigh. If you've ever played football or any other game (soccer, etc.) and had one of your legs (knee, ankle, foot, etc.) even very barely nudged while you are running at full speed, you know how easy it is to be taken down this way.
It wasn't accidental, it wasn't incidental, he wasn't flinching or trying to protect himself, it was a deliberate move, and he should be fired immediately if he doesn't have the sense or decency to resign.
While the coach may have extended his knee a little bit, the dolphin player was breaking the rule by running up the field while out of bounds and making no attempt to get back in bounds before advancing up the field. The reality is that by rule there should have been a 15 yard penalty on the dolphins for the attempt by the player to run up the field without getting back into the field of play first.
He was breaking the rules and committing what should have been a 15 yard penalty, that's what he was doing.
Art was probably calling his bookie at the time.
It looked like it to me.
This always amazes me...that something can be so obvious on video and some folks can't see it.
No, they are not good to go. If a player on kick or punt coverage runs up the field while out of bounds rather than attempting to immediately get back in bounds it is a 15 yard unsportsmanlike penalty. Why is it unsportsmanlike? Because since they can't be blocked while they are out of bounds, it is against the rules to take advantage of that and run down the field out of bounds to avoid having to deal with blockers. Also, they cannot be the first to touch the ball to down it if they went out of bounds regardless of whether or not they reestablish themselves in bounds.
Just like the Mets.
Iowa State had been to two straight bowl games (back in the day when there were maybe 10 or so, and going to a bowl was a really big deal). Woody does his thing, and Ohio State hired away Iowa State's head coach Earle Bruce. And so began the long sad string of coaches at Iowa State. Things are looking up now though for the Cyclones! ISU Fight!
I saw the video. He did NOT trip the Fin at all. He bent down slightly on his knee. And the Fin was out of bounds anyway. Boo hoo. Fins are such whiners. I guess it’s descended from the crybabies Shula and Marino.
Not the best way to go out, but it was Classic Hayes.
