I say Lee Marvin hands down. He was just cool and never thought he had to prove it.

Good scene!
I did a bit of work on that to expand the top and bottom areas - it fuzzed them somewhat - and actually made the Mustang jump out of the screen more - and emphasized the action
Movies are difficult to get the actual feel of speed in a scene

I LIKE actors who served. McQueen, Marvin, etc. McQueen had more "coolness" like Eastwood. Marvin seemed like a tough SOB, not necessarily "cool" though. Same as Bronson. Tough MF'er but not "cool".
One of my favorite movies is "Cool Hand Luke", Newman was superb, despite his stupid politics. (Where the HELL did he get the liberalism from?)

That’s cute, you can play childish word games if you choose, I don’t.

How do people like Newman serve their country honorably turn AGAINST their country, like during Vietnam? Heck, even Ernest Borgnine is a republican.

Lee Marvin could “be a Steve”, but Steve was, well, Steve.
To: Krankor
I had the opportunity to know both. Marvin was tougher, but McQ was cooler, more facets.

Marvin- no contest. He was the real thing. With a face like that he HAD to be tough.

Fonzie jumped the shark if that is what you mean. I am sure a stuntman actually jumped the tank in which there was supposedly a shark.

Guess it is if you know what it was, lol.
I didn’t know you had worked on that photo.
Getting late for me.

Thanks for the Mitchum plug. I was waiting for someone to mention him. Of all the guys who played tough guys in movies, Mitchum was one of the truly tough guys in real life. Deborah Kerr had an anecdote about Mitchum punching out a would-be tough guy in a bar while at a post film party after shooting a western. It's pretty funny.
Mitchum, Kerr, and some other members of the cast and crew were enjoying a few drinks on the second floor of a bar in some small town out west after finishing the flick. While they were enjoying their drinks, some local idiot who wanted to make a name for himself started badgering Mitchum. Mitchum asked him he wanted to take a swing at him. The guy said he would. Mitchum, an ex pro-boxer, turned his cheek and let the guy hit him flush. Mitchum barely turned his head. He then asked the guy if he minded if he, Mitchum took a swing at him. The guy said yes. Mitchum hit the guy so hard he not knocked him out the door and down the steps. Mitchum then turned to the rest of the film people and said "heres to everyone here and to the man who fell down the stairs." Or something like that.

Cooler... Tougher... Bronson was BOTH.

Ivan is correct, Bud Ekins did the jump. He also did much of the wild driving in Bullitt.
To: Krankor
Clint Eastwood.

McQeen was ultimately a ladies’ man; Marvin was a man’s man. Not a fair comparison. Marvin was a real-life hard-ass.
