I LIKE actors who served. McQueen, Marvin, etc. McQueen had more "coolness" like Eastwood. Marvin seemed like a tough SOB, not necessarily "cool" though. Same as Bronson. Tough MF'er but not "cool".
One of my favorite movies is "Cool Hand Luke", Newman was superb, despite his stupid politics. (Where the HELL did he get the liberalism from?)

How do people like Newman serve their country honorably turn AGAINST their country, like during Vietnam? Heck, even Ernest Borgnine is a republican.

When Lee Marvin starred in the movie "The Big Red One" I realized how much he resembled my Grandfather who was my first real hero. Grandpa served with Blackjack Pershing chasing Pancho Villa down in Mexico and also fought in WWI.
I liked the movie because the unit was the 16th regiment of the Big Red One. I had served with the 2nd Battalion of the 16th Infantry in the “Big Red One” in Vietnam. So I had a couple reasons to like the movie.
