1. Guns! Shotgun most commonly a simple 12-gauge pump (20-gauge if weaker-statured people will be using it.) Pistol If you live in a state where its legal to own/carry a pistol for self defense, then you should be doing it. Battle Rifle Were talking those mean, state-of-the art, misnamed assault rifles. Mines in .223 caliber, and I make no excuses for it. Its accurate out to long distances, accepts a 30-round magazine, and puts out a high rate of suppressive fire. And make sure you have plenty of ammo. (Were talking thousands of rounds. No one ever came out of a firefight saying Darn, I wish Id had fewer bullets!) 2. Water 3. Heat 4. Food 5. Medical supplies 6. Power and Lights 7. Communications 8. Transportation 9. Entertainment 10. God

We’ve already got everything on that list at our house.
Be careful if you’re ordering online though.
Larry the Cable Guy tried to order Guns & Ammo, but ended up getting Nuns in Camo instead.
How ‘bout hoarding some junk silver (pre-64 coinage)?
Hard to buy groceries with Kruggerands and Maple Leafs, IMO.
Heck, I thought thats what everybody did, secured that list minimally, for any abode they occupied.
7. Communications
This is a weak spot for me. I do have a land-line phone that ties into a fiber optic cable a mile or so away. Not sure how reliable that is.
What I would really like to do is get an HF HAM rig set up.
You can do that effectively for about $500. Keep in mind a way to power it.
Night vision gear could be very helpful
I had a SKS, a .38 Taurus, and a .22 rifle for food.
But all those gun and their ammo fell in a lake during a canoe accident.
You won’t be “buying” groceries w/ silver, either. All goods/service will be by barter.
Welcome to FreeRepublic!
Thank you for your post.
That's a good idea but don't forget short range comms, either. We've got a set of four of those FRS/GMRS handheld sets in chargers.
We've also got two handheld marine band units even though, and because, the nearest large body of water is 40 miles away. The MB radios are more powerful, 5 watts, and they use freqs that won't be all jammed up in our locality. I figure the FCC will have other things on their plate.
Also don't forget CB. A decent base station and a good antenna can reach a long, long way when conditions are right.
My favorite Larry quote about guns:
If guns kill people, then I can blame my spelling mistakes on my pencil.
1. Guns!
We have two adults and a 15 y/o teen here and all are armed and well versed in the use of firearms. Everyone has a rifle for hunting and a pistol for...other purposes.
Need to get a shotgun though.
Were talking thousands of rounds. No one ever came out of a firefight saying Darn, I wish Id had fewer bullets! If it comes to a firefight with my .223 and I do my job right with the first hundred rounds, there will be plenty of surplus ordinance laying around. If I don't do my job right, it won't matter.
Exactly!!!!! Hey buddy my family is starving will you take these gold coins for some of your food?? LMAO.
The best stuff to stock up on is Coleman lanterns(with plenty of fuel), portable cook stoves(with plenty of fuel), water pufications sytems etc
Boy, as a group, Freepers seem to have the worst luck on water.
#4 buckshot for the shotgun.

Yeah! You’re right. I didn’t lose mine in a lake though, it was a river.
