Police say a Vermont man who believed he was holding an air gun shot his sleeping friend dead in bed with a .22-caliber rifle.
Manchester police told WCAX-TV that the two friends were staying at another friend's home Thursday. Police say 23-year-old Nicholas Bell of Manchester was hoping to play a prank on his friend and wake him up with an air gun.
But authorities say Bell ended up firing a shot from a loaded rifle into the chest of 24-year-old Jeffrey Charbonneau of Manchester, and he died.

Yeah, and I believe in Santa Claus.
Muh.
Beer.
Not impossible. There are quite a few idiots out there, but something like this is very implausible. As a matter of fact, I don’t believe it. I didn’t believe Susan Smith either when she went on TV and said her children were kidnapped. I’m not always right, but something stinks here.

The stupid... it kills. RIP.
I saw a case just like that on t.v. only the wife used a 9 mm to wake her husband up one morning. After two shots she decided to let him sleep in.
Damn unfriendly, if you ask me.
Murder 1

Friends help you move. Really good friends help you move bodies. Sounds like he needed some really good friends.
This man is an idiot and guilty of manslaughter. I feel bad for his friend. If it’s not clearly a toy gun (purple, you just put water in, you just got the nerf darts put in) what would ever possess a person to aim a realistic looking gun at a friend? Or really, any other person for that matter? It’s brandishing, in most places that is a felony that will cost you your 2A rights. The people you are brandishing at have no idea if it’s real or not, if it looks real you’re in trouble.
One time when my cousin and I were boys about 9 and 10, I had to go out and start the mower...it didn’t start right up so I pulled up the plug wire and told my cousin to hold it while I pulled the cord. He did it - I did it - He jumped 4 feet high..
Something is fishy here.
We always played with BB guns and it wasn’t always that we didn’t cross the line and shoot at each other, but we always shot low and mostly at someone’s butt. Even as kids we knew better than to shoot a BB gun at someone’s chest or head.
Also the BB gun had to be loaded and cocked, just as 22’s have to be loaded and cocked. Any fool can see the difference between a BB gun or pellet gun and a 22 rifle. Just the weight is a giveaway.
Unless someone loaded and cocked this gun and told this fellow to shoot it, this story just doesn’t make sense.
He needs to come up with a new story.
They make air rifles that operate off of compressed air cartridges. It may that this moron had never handled any weapons except compressed air cartridge type.
Regardless, the guy is a fool, at best.
I have a Beretta CX4 9mm carbine. I also have a Beretta CX4 C02 pellet gun.....outside of looking at the clip and comparing bore sizes, you really can’t tell the difference. The large CO2 cannister mounts in the buttstock. [The clip on the pellet gun is neat...just like a real clip size wize, but has a flexible belt that indexes the pellet to the breech after each firing.....semi-auto just like the carbine...
