I tried a new recipe about a month ago that the family is requesting every week. Simmer fresh or frozen green beans in salt pork. The taste is out of this word. Not a casserole, not just green bean flavor.... I guess pork makes everything taste better. As for green bean casserole, we can take it or leave it.

GREEN BEAN CASSEROLE
Tune: “Old-Time Rock-and-Roll”
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UX8onzIvcVo

Just put those old roasters in a line
It’s time for potluck and the pleasure’s mine
Today’s menus can’t fill the old hole
I like that green bean casserole

Don’t try to make me eat your tofu
You’ll sooner get to see me eatin’ dog food
I’ll start headin’ for the church basement door
I like that green bean casserole

Still like that green bean casserole
That kind of eatin’ just soothes the soul
I wanna know what’s on my plate and bowl
Like that green bean casserole

Don’t want shiitake or a mango
I’d rather eat some foods whose names I know
There’s only one sure way to get me to go
Start servin’ green bean casserole

Call me Midwestern, call my palate poor
Say I’m a Luth’ran, say I’m no connoisseur
Today’s menus can’t fill the old hole
I like that green bean casserole

Still like that green bean casserole
That kind of eatin’ just soothes the soul
I wanna know what’s on my plate and bowl
Like that green bean casserole . . .

I made the mistake of introducing that to my husband and now he loves the darn stuff.....He requested it for his birthday dinner last week, he had it yesterday at the work party and he wants it for T-Day.

My boys want corn casserole and my famous sweet potato casserole for Thanksgiving.......I am serving green beans with butter and pepper.....hubby may be diasappointed but too many casseroles I fear

Oh, be patient. After tomorrow, you will have fruitcake to deal with.

I love green beans but hate the casseroles. Adding a can of “fried onions” and a can of cream of mushroom soup to green beans? Why not just let your dog puke on them before putting the dish in the oven. You’d get the same result.

It’s better if you use moose meat and cheese.

The dish is nostalgia 50s-60s - every recipe back then called for 2 cans of soup, 3 tubs of crisco, 4 containers of sour cream, 5 boxes of jello, 6 cups of cooked macaroni, 7 cups of shredded american cheese, 8 cups of margarine or oleo, 9 boxes of frozen vegetable and 10 cups kraft mayonnaise -— mix all together - oven 350 for 1 hour -yum!

To paraphrase my Dad, "Come back next year. Maybe we'll have something you like."

(When we kids would complain about the food, he'd say "Come back tomorrow. Maybe we'll have something you like.")

"I'd sooner be roofied by Barney Frank than be subject to the holiday abomination known as green bean casserole."

"Roofied" by Bawney Fwank?

I was gonna ask what that means, but if Bawney is involved, I don't think I wanna know.

I love fresh green beans. And they are good also if you cut them up and add them to soups, but do it late so they are still crunchy.

But casserole I can live without - besides, isn’t making a casserole out of something what you do with yesterdays leftovers?
If nobody wanted to eat them yesterday, why would they all the sudden decide to eat them today?
