Seriously, all of this talk from pundits, politicos, supporters of other potential GOP candidates or just those always fearing doom no matter what, that Sarah Palin cannot defeat Obama in 2012 but that this list of guys has a better chance at doing it is both hubris and a fallacy of presumption
Who's to say that these so-called preferred stock won't stumble when it's their turn to face intense scrutiny from the media and the myriad of attacks from the Obama administration no matter how weaken Obama may be come 2012? Better yet the question should be do they have the kind of mettle to counter-attack effectively? Presumptuous people need not to apply.
When looking at Sarah Palin what you get is someone, who after the 2008 Presidential campaign has not shied away from going right at the Democrats and the Obama Administration hard and intensely without fearing how the MSM would characterized it.....about two-thirds of those names that are on the list of GOP candidates have been selectivity careful in their criticism at times and some have been almost at a sort of FBI witness protection agency hideout as far as coming out against some of the most egregious Obama Administration policies. If any one is to defeat Obama in 2012, you have to look at many key points but for this article we will focus on one of them:
1. Issues....The person who can frame the issues and clearly define it early and often in the Primaries and the General election has a greater opportunity to put Obama down as a one term President. The common consensus among the pundits and talking heads is that the likes of Huckabee, Romney, Gingrich, Pawlenty or Thune have a better command of issues than Sarah Palin could ever dream of. Really? Looking at what the New York Time said recently about Palin's possible strategy if she decides to run, Robert Draper's piece reveals that if Palin run, she will in essence campaign not only against the Obama Democrats but also against a Republican establishment that betrayed its principles and let down the country. For Palin, her sentiments jibe with widespread perceptions of the GOP. It's true even according to polling data that there is a schism and disconnect between the GOP party and Republican/conservative voters, if little old Sarah Palin could figure this out and may endear throngs of Republican voters and maybe even some independents to her for coming out on a simple issue going straight at the wrongs of the Party, why can't these fellows having their finger on the issues of the day, figured this out years ago or better yet implement such a thing?
In fact Palin has come out and talk about on a number of issues ranging from Nuclear Armament, Military preparedness and to the issue of the Gulf Oil crisis and what to do about it. Plus as John Coale said in the NYT article that Look, everyone has an opinion about Sarah Palin,But suppose when she starts doing the debates during the primaries, she knocks it out of the park. That would cause an entirely different view of things, wouldnt it?" It would change a lot of things indeed Mr. Coale.
Speaking of command of issues, If any candidate has a great number of issue but is afraid or at least timid to go for the jugular with those subjects against Obama, he or she loses on that issue outright...One thing even many critics of Sarah Palin can't deny is that even in the 2008 election Sarah wanted to go for the jugular at Obama and talk about his past relationships despite some apprehension from the hapless McCain staff about being "not afraid of an Obama administration". I don't care what Mitt, Newt or Mitch Daniels know if they won't take off the gloves at go at Obama with all of his backing from the media, Acorn and union thugs then they are tying their hands behinds their backs and what supposedly strength is mute and a Sarah Palin could have just have fared better, if one wants to be presumptuous! Get it?
Those are my sentiments too.
I agree. It is very difficult to see how any GOP candidate wins if Bloomberg runs as Independent in the general election and the rats know this. Look for major positive media coverage for Bloomberg as they position him over the next few months.
A serious 3rd party candidate tilts very heavily in Zero’s favor.
That said, I can see a lot of knives out for her on our side of the aisle as well as the other. I just saw what happens when a divided party goes into a general election they should win. Up-ticket loses and down-ticket wins. That would be a disaster for the country if it happened in 2012. I am very concerned there is no candidate conservatives are coalescing behind and we look very divided.
Yes. Understandable. Great to admit to that reality early on too.
I agree with Michael Savage who said Obama would beat her .
I think if Sarah runs, which by the way, she is already doing, she will win. And I will help her any way I can
None of the propagandists on FR or in the MSM seem to have read or seen anything Sarah Palin has written or said. That is why they are propagandists.
She is the only national figure who has articulated a conservative vision for the USA to recover and prosper, in all respects, and the only one who seems to have a clue how that vision jibes with the Republican Party Platform.
I have said repeatedly, she needs to get a coach to help her tone down her colloquial and shoot from the hip style and to learn to speak more deliberately.
And before you guys lay into me...I am a Sarah supporter. I just want her to win!
Palin can win if the Commies in our Government don’t cheat at the polls. I’m still trying to figure out how Harry Reid got reelected.
Will Palin vote/sign the for the things you want a leader to vote/sign for? Will Obama? Will anybody else as consistently? People are getting all hung up on the “personality” of these candidates. Look past that ... what does she believe. Does she believe what YOU believe? Does anybody else believe what you believe? Do they have a record of accomplishing what they say they believe. Choices suddenly disappear ... and what is left standing? Sarah.
I think it’s going to all boil down to two particular things.
First, the left-wing media and left-wing partisans have carefully crafted a caricature of Sarah Palin as a semi-illiterate knuckle-dragging backwater fundamentalist who doesn’t know anything — one of the two standard left-wing stereotypes (to them, conservatives are either dunces or evil geniuses). If Palin can show a command of the issues, respond quickly and intelligently in interviews and debates, and show that the caricature is a lie, her polling will quickly change and people will stop trusting the media. If the public realizes that the media was lying to them in 2008 about Palin as well as Obama and that’s why we’ve been stuck with Obama, the media will have much less influence in 2012.
Second, Sarah Palin’s children could torpedo her chances by misbehaving. If her children get in trouble with the law or another pregnancy or start saying stupid things about their family or politically touchy groups, then people (particularly in her base) could conclude that she can’t control her family and needs to focus on them instead of running for President.
But if Sarah Palin can show a command of the issues, a quick mind, and her family keeps their act together, then I think current poll numbers are going to be largely irrelevant.
There are far more viable candidates including Christie (please run), Pence, Barbour, Pawlenti, Jindal,
Agree.. And you know what, she will probably chose Rubio for VP which will make it very hard for Obama or any other RAT to win... She will have Florida and probably a pretty good number of hispanics voting for her across the country. You could be talking a pretty size margin of victory.
