How long have the frozen turkeys been frozen? I was told by a former grocer that in some cases it is as long as a year.
The one I just bought says “Inspected by Miles Standish.”
My former brother-in-law is in the biz (broker.) He told me himself they could be frozen up to 3 1/2 years.
LOL!
whats the red X for?
Could this be a heath problem, or should we just not worry about it?
You’re the doctor, you oughta know!
I just bought a turkey for 22 cents a pound.
A 14 pound turkey cost me $3.25
Mine has ice burns. Real ice burns.
“As God is my witness...”
There is a reason they are water injected, sealed and shrink wrapped.
Most of these are in deep freeze and there won’t be any health problems - there will be a taste problem and texture problem but they are sound. There are codes on the birds and codes on the cases they come in(everything gets tracked), ask your meat guys what’s on the boxes and how to read the date codes on the birds.
National brands will be younger codes for the most part unless trailer loads never sold the other big holidays - so they’ll store them if they have the capacity or cold storage facilities around the country at a good price.
I once had Thanksgiving at a relatives house that was in their freezer for over 2 years and who the heck knows how long it was frozen before that - it didn’t taste like anything - it was like eating tofu. The gravy could have saved it but it was from a jar - we don’t eat with that side of the family anymore on holidays - lol
1 year is the frozen shelf life.
why would they keep turkeys that long? Doesnt make sense...
Why not grind em up and sell them as ground turkey
Forgiving your jocularity. I’m not someone that is familiar with the longevity of frozen turkeys. I just asked a question, expecting a civil answer. Nothing more, nothing less.
The lower the price, the longer they have been frozen. Maybe the reason I’ve never cared for turkey, is because they’ve always been frozen for years.......IMO, you might as well chew on a piece of cardboard as eat turkey. Gimee good ham!
Formerly, they were frozen as long as a year. Buy a Butterball. You get what you pay for.
It’s a purely economic situation. What costs less? A new turkey or a hospital visit for eight?
Thanks for your response. Gives me some prespective.
