Good morning gardeners. Thanksgiving is next week and I hope all Freepers enjoy a bountiful feast with family and friends. Dont forget to give thanks, it can turn a meal into a feast.
A reminder for those of you who have a frozen turkey, for every 4 pounds of turkey it will take a day to thaw in the refrigerator. A 20-pound turkey will take 5 days so you need to start defrosting it tomorrow. If your turkey will not fit into your fridge defrost it in an ice chest with ice.
If the turkey is allowed to thaw at a temperature above 40 ºF, any harmful bacteria that may have been present before freezing can begin to grow again unless proper thawing methods are used.
You can also thaw it in a cold-water bath. Allow about 30 minutes per pound when thawing a turkey in cold water. A 20-pound turkey will take 10 hours using this method. Be sure to change the water often. Turkeys thawed by the cold-water method should be cooked immediately because conditions were not temperature controlled.
Ok Freepers this means no thawing of the turkey on the back porch or in the trunk of your car!
I may have missed it somewhere, but how does SB 510 not be DOA due to the Interstate Commerce Clause?
Amendment which makes it illegal to interfere with Interstate Commerce?
We’d have to rename Mushroom Soup to Mushroom Chowder in light of these finds...
I’ll have to talk to Ma Bender what she thinks of that. She makes a killer Clam Chowder but she takes that recipe right off the back of the can. There is the annual Mushroom Fair here Sunday but the times clash with the last Nascar Race of the season...
It wouldn’t hurt to put another bed in where it would get more sun . You can always use it to plant something that loves the heat like okra later in the season.
You can extend your greens a bit by growing some in pots where you can move them around or by using some shade cloth but getting things like lettuce to grow past spring is well very hard . I’ve never had luck growing spinach here but New Zealand spinach does much better and it can be used in the same ways as regular spinach .
Gardening in Florida is a whole different ball game than anywhere else :)
Be careful...I didn’t like the spike in price (something like 26.00 a lb) for pine nuts at Costco...so didn’t buy. Next time NO pine nuts....hmmm asked about them, no they didn’t happen to have them. Next time NO pine nuts (I’m allergic to most nuts but can eat pine nuts) asked them what’s up? Not going to carry pine nuts anymore. Should have bought them the first time. I heard that 99% of pine nuts at Costco come from China (of course).
Priorities man! Priorities!
Well Ya I’m a closet JJ fan but don’t tell anyone...

Mum's the word.
You should send some of those to your mum. I gotta lockup so I’ll see you at home ltr...
I took her out for salmon dinner yesterday. Is that close?
FWIW
I live in a bottom and have leaf issues from late Aug. through late Nov..... bradford pear, crab apple, oak, maple, chestnut, walnut, catalpa and sycamore. Early I use the drag behind lawn sweeper after I mow, but when the grass slows and the leaves really start to cover, I use the mulch attachment (cover that blocks the discharge chute at the deck) and keep the deck at it’s highest setting. I’ll mulch leaves 4 or 5 times before It’s time to remove the deck so I can use the tractor to haul wood to the house through the winter.
Do you ever use the sweeper to pick up the mulched leaves?
No. Since it doesn’t go out the discharge chute, it doesn’t leave rows(for the most part). I do use it to pick up grass clippings for most of the year though.
I am having a Hard time just knowing that roast is in the fridge aging. A real hard time. I just hope it turns out well when I decide to cook it!
I’ve been here a dozen years already and this is the first year that I have had space to do a little gardening so I am learning a lot by trial and error...
It’s going to be perfect. There’s a ‘sear’ function you should look into.
Did you use the recomended times for cooking? It says about 75 min. for my five lb. roast.
I got mine used, no manual.... it’s all experimentation. If 75 minutes seems too much, you can always put a piece of foil between the roast and the element, taking the searing process out, only baking if it’s browning too quickly.
Electronic assemblies and related items. We are a small contract manufacturer and we will make anything that another company wants that is within our capability. Right now most of our business seems to be in water treatment equipment and undersea oil exploration devices.
