If you get a chance and are interested, please read this article carefully. This is my specialty. The prediction of crack growth in metals under stress. This is one of the closest examples of what your 2/3rd does on my job for those that want to peer into what I do. I'll quote the pertinent parts. This is the kind of thing I am involved in frequently. It is so difficult to describe what I do to folks, but this does it so well......

Although I am not at all involved in this one, when they talk about "This was not an unexpected result since the load was most likely transferred to the adjacent stringer when both sides of the original stringer cracked during tanking operations....."

and again, and EVEN MORE SO, when they say this: "Engineers will use "structural math models" to characterize the forces acting on the stringers during launch to make sure repairs will be sufficient to provide the required margin of safety.".......This is exactly what I do as my favorite part of my job. I can assure you that the guys and gals working on this are top notch and they will solve it. I go to work every day hoping they will call me to solve a problem like this for whoever needs an answer.

Thanks for the link. IMO, you do very important work in making space flight a reality. It is incredible to me how those streses are so accurately calculated. I know that y’all feel great responsibility when things go wrong, but actually it is more amazing that so little has gone wrong. Y’all are traveling through uncharted territory and yet, you’ve been spot-on so many times.

...as I've said to you through the years, you and my husband track each other in some areas..

I just feel badly for the space industry in our little burg....
..it's one of the mother companies here and many will be affected by the closings......thousands layed off.....and the domino effect of adjunct folks and stores, hotels, even churches being caught in this spiral.

People leave.....
