Title of video is: Mysterious Missile Launches over Southern California Mystery Missile Launch "Lights Up the Sky" over LA: Watch the video and judge for yourself. Listen to the former Deputy Secretary of Defense, and former US Ambassador to NATO, Robert Ellsworth, and hear the laughing amazement in his voice as he tells the two reporters: "It is a big missile !!! Spectacular! Takes your breath away !!! Sub launched ICBM !!!" ... but what would he know?

"Spectacular! Takes you breath away! Sub launched ICBM missile !!!"
Take a look at the video and judge for yourself - I will post a clickable link next.
In the video, anyone can clearly see the missile streaking into the sky, with the heavy high-volume exhaust smoke plume billowing from the rear in a typical corkscrew pattern ...
Mr. Ellsworth goes on to say:
"It could be a test firing of an underwater ICBM missile from a submarine... not the Taliban (too big)"
By the way, the several reporters in the video matter of factly state over and over:
"Missile launch."
Fire coming out the back of the missile lights up the sky.
Is this an American mistaken launch???
or Chinese warning to stop trying to ruin their economy?
Or crazy NORKs ?
Robert Ellsworth says "Not the Taliban (too big). Could be underwater ICBM test firing".
HIs opinion identical to that mine, and that of:
Doug Richardson, the editor of Janes Missiles and Rockets examined the video for the Times of London and said he was left with little doubt.
"Its a solid propellant missile," he told the Times. "You can tell from the efflux [smoke]."
Richardson said it could have been a ballistic missile launched from a submarine or an interceptor, the defensive anti-missile weapon used by Navy surface ships.
I'm going with the two experts on this one, since it agrees with what can so easily be seen with my own lyin' eyes ...
Meanwhile, naval analyst Raymond Pritchett makes a smart point: that the mystery itself is becoming a security problem.
When someone makes an unannounced launch what looks to be a ballistic missile 35 miles from the nation's second largest city (at sea in international waters), and 18 hours later NORAD still doesnt have any answers at all -- that complete lack of information represents a credible threat to national security, he writes.
If NORAD cant answer the first and last question, then I believe it is time to question every single penny of ballistic missile defense funding in the defense budget. NORTHCOM needs to start talking about what they do know, rather than leaving the focus on what they dont know.

Oh, for crying out loud...
Every time I see the word "clearly" in that context in this story it reminds me of this guy:
:)
Every day this guy... new thread, old discredited news. It’s forum abuse.
I’m curious, where did it go? I suppose what goes up must come down...
I DON’T know why this is still news. The Navy released a PDF file last sunday with an out line of possible launches until 23:59 zulu for the test range STARTING monday...
Hey Rob, I was right about silver, no.
And I am right about this. It was a missle launch, tell your masters we are not buying the propaganda.
It’s clear a lot of people really have a hard time backing down, no matter what.
Glenn Beck calls it “Arguing With Idiots”.
I was an idiot regarding Nixon. I was fully in support of him during watergate, until one day I had a moment of clarity and completely reversed my position.
Same thing happened with this issue, but I am much quicker now to slay my own misconceptions - yes, it’s true that I thought this was absolutely a missile at first. “Clearly” many people have yet to have that “moment of clarity” on this issue. I suspect many never will. Their spiritual brethren regarding 9/11 are called “truthers”.
...that’s EXACTLY what I was thinking...somewhere, there’s a really confused, speared whale.
Nya, nya, nya. ;)
The video shows a payload rising on a solid-fuel booster rocket. Distance to rocket, maybe 30 to 40 miles seen from a chase angle. You can even see a flame (not on this video, but on the full clip of which this is an extract)
Its very obviously a rocket.
My first post with still photos was here:

Many, many people who have seen many many missile launches, agreed with what is so obviously seen in the stills and videos that are there.
However, a number of bloggers have angrily, even screachingly, announced taht lighting up the sky means nothing, that this is a contrail from an airliner approaching LA.
I don’t see it.
I live in north LA, and I see missile launches all the time, and condensation trails too.
This is a missile launch.
For fun, read the 330 posts on the previous thread “Take a look a this photo of the “Mystery Missile” as it rises straight up and then disappears ...”

An angry fellow FReeper who thinks I should go back to high school, previously said to me:
“Go to the local high school and get a GED is need be.”
Huh? Your post is so poorly written it is hard to answer.
Perhaps when you calm down and become coherent again you will be able to type better ...
I rest my case with the Jane’s expert who said: Undoubtedly a missile, you can tell from the smoke exhaust (not a contrail in the sky, not even similar if you look)
I quote him here:
Doug Richardson, the editor of Janes Missiles and Rockets examined the video for the Times of London and said he was left with little doubt.
“Its a solid propellant missile,” he told the Times. “You can tell from the efflux [smoke].”
Richardson said it could have been a ballistic missile launched from a submarine or an interceptor, the defensive anti-missile weapon used by Navy surface ships.
Maybe he too forgot to get his high school diploma?
and from another FReeper, who no doubt forgot to go to high school (the dog):
“That is a missile launched from a submerged submarine. I have seen several launches and this photo is exactly like the launches I saw.”
and the former Deputy Sec of Defense: “Spectacular! Takes you breath away! Sub launched ICBM !”
I paraphrase him here from the video mentioned earlier, or, if you had a brain, and could write, you could listen and quote him yourself:
Listen to Robert Ellsworth, the former Deputy Secretary of Defense, and former US Ambassador to NATO, and the laughing amazement in his voice as he tells the reporters:
“It is a big missile !!! Spectacular! Breath taking !!! It is a missile! That is not the Taliban. It could be a test firing of an ICBM from a submarine”
BTW: the missile rose from the ground, lit up the whole sky over LA, for 2 minutes (not 10),
and the smoke lingered for 8 more minutes after the missile disappeared to the North.
Not “the missile lingered in the sky for 10 minutes”
No one has said that.
Think I will go with the unrefuted experts.
I think, as an intelligent person, I will go with Doug Richardson, the editor of Janes Missiles and Rockets, and my own eyes.
It is incredibly obvious.
BTW
Perhaps it is you and not the Former Deputy Secretary of Defense and US Ambassador to NATO or myself who should go back to school and get his diploma.
For everyone else, a bit politer, who wishes to judge for themselves:

Note that each of the several News 8 reporters matter-of-factly says “That amazing missile launch up in Los Angeles ...” and “trying to get more information on the missile launch” ... and “the Navy doesn’t have a clue”.
In the background you can see some video on the wide screen with the exhaust plume spewing out of the back of the missile as it heads northwards ...

Well Nya, nya, nta back :-)
>>Im curious, where did it go? I suppose what goes up must come down...<<
Actually, it DID come down, right on time, here:

“I shot an arrow into the air.;
It fell to earth, I knew not where...”
Seems to me that if there was something to hide, the military would have hid it a lot better by simply saying “yeah we launched it”.
I saw that Russian sources say that it was the Chi-Coms. IT was related to the Cruise Ship that the Chi-Coms knocked out with a new EMP weapon. A shot across Obambis bow.
Well donchaknow Comrade Obama says we can absorb another attack.
