I've always liked Director Peter Weir's films. Master and Commander, Witness, Gallipoli. Even things I didn't care for like The Year Of Living Dangerously and The Dead Poets Society were still well done and stylish. Now he has this coming out in January about an escape from a Soviet gulag in 1940 (be sure to click on the link to the trailer below):

Then there is this little number from Director Kevin Smith. I'll provide the synopsis from IMDB but I'll be damned if I'm going to provide a link to the trailer. From IMDB: "A horror film in which a group of misfits encounter fundamentalism gone to the extreme in Middle America."
“fear God” and a cross.
Someone should tell President Obama that this is offensive to Christians.
He called the State Department and others to pressure a pastor of a small church into not burning a koran.
Maybe the White House needs to knock horns with Hollyweird.
Oh, I know it won’t come from our antiChristian, pro-Islamist president. Just pointing out the double standard at play.
The Way Back is adapted from the book “The Long Walk” that is a great read, even if parts of it have been exposed as fiction.
Kevin Smith is an idiot...and let’s face it, after this bombs, no one is going to hire him anymore.
Supposedly Smith is a Catholic who attends Mass every Sunday.
“Fear God” is not necessarily an antireligous sentiment, as in the expression “A God fearing man”, basically meaning a pious or at least observant person. I don’t see any need to take offense.
We need to wait and see what it is about....that tiny bit of information is not enough to make an intelligent information. It might be a comedy....it could be satire. Kevin Smith normally does really good films that are funny so we should wait and see this develop. Of course it is over a year from now that it even premiers.
Ok I read it again. It sounds like another Children of the Corn. Those were pretty good movies (at least the first few).
I watched ‘Children of the Corn’ again not too long ago. It’s utter dreck.
We need fatwa’s to be issued
Well now it probably would be...:) I saw it in high school and thought it was cool. I could not see it today even if I wanted to because of how dated it would be.
fatwa for the fat man.
Is Kevin Smith still complaining about being charged for 2 seats on a plane?
I’ll be ordering The Long Walk for Christmas and looking forward to The Way Back when it is released on DVD.
Thank you for posting.
Speaking of movies - Turner Classic Movies will debut Clint Eastwood’s film about Dave Brubeck on December 6, 2010. Mark your calendar. It’s Dave’s 90th birthday - One American Treasure paying tribute to another American Treasure. I can’t wait.
These states used to not be called “Red States”. I disregard the Commie sympathizing media which FLIPPED the color assignment launched a meme.
I fart in the direction of their “revolution”.
The Way Back trailer looks intriguing. I read the book - its veracity has been questioned in the past and it does read mostly like fiction. But the movie could be gripping, and at least somebody major is finally making a movie showing the reality of the Gulag, to some degree.
Vajda’s KATYN is a bracing look at some similar material.
Didn’t he claim to have seen the Russian version of a yeti in that book?
