A very barred girl - banned from buying or drinking booze ANYWHERE in the country (UK)

LOUT Laura Hall is the first person to be banned from buying or drinking booze ANYWHERE in the country. Magistrates slapped the Drinking Banning Order (DBO) on Hall after she was involved in a run of alcohol-related public order offences.

Cops argued strict measures were needed to deal with the 20-year-old's drunken behaviour.

The DBO means Hall is not allowed in any pub, club, off-licence or bar in England and Wales for the next two years. She is also banned from buying booze - or having alcohol in an unsealed container or drinking in any public place. And she must attend an alcohol-misuse course.

Sgt David Roberts added: "Rather than seeing it as a punishment, we hope she'll use it to get her life on track." Hall, of Bromsgrove, Worcs, had already been banned from all her local pubs before yesterday's decision by Kidderminster JPs.

Licensing officer PC Neil Sharpe said he hoped the order would prove an "example to others".

He added: "A DBO is a powerful tool for tackling alcohol-related disorder. We will not hesitate to apply for more and we hope that others with drink-related issues will take note of this."

DBOs were launched by the Home Office last September. But Rachel Seabrook, of the Institute of Alcohol Studies, doubted whether the order could be enforced.

She said: "How can a police officer in Wales know this women has been banned if she turns up in his town?"

Isn't that the case with most 20-year-olds in the US? At least until they turn 21.

If we treated drinking like sex, she would be able to do it if she was with her “of age” friends.

Age of consent laws make exceptions but drinking is a crime until your birthday.

My point is that if is virtually impossible to stop thousands of underage kids from drinking alcohol before they come of age, how possible is it going to be to stop just one.

They aren’t as strict as other european countries, however. In other places you immediately lose your license, pay a heavy fine and could go to jail depending on the circumstances.

And she’s the only one they’ve ever done this to. Since they are pretty lenient in general to criminals over there, and punish those who self-defend themselves harsher than the criminals that get injured while committing crimes, I suspect she had a very long and hellish record of offenses before they finally slapped this on her.

The last time I was in England, there seemed to be a lot more public drunkenness than I’m used to seeing in the US. It could be just that the young people were drinking in public places rather than at parties inside houses, I guess.

Well just about anything over there is a reason to go out and have a drink. Good or bad. Have a drink. It’s about the only thing government lets them do - I believe - because there’s revenue for the state from alcohol. Also justifies all the cops they have on govt payroll.
