Drop it.
Get F-Prot and Spybot.
I have never had a problem with Kapersky....Norton was a POS.
JMO..
Your problem is Norton.
Look into Eset Security Suite.
I had nothing but trouble using Nortons with Outlook.
You can probably get “CA” free from you local internet provider if you happen to have Time Warner.
Norton anti-virus is a virus.
Norton anti-virus software is a virus.
Just say NO..
I hate norton
Getting to the point, Norton became so bloated and intrusive that it tied up much of the computer resources and so I started looking around and picked the free Comodo.
The darned thing is better than anything the paid stuff does and it takes up almost no resources and has better firewalls and anti virus.
Norton and MacAffee act like Uncle Joe Stalin and hijack your system.
I know that others here will recommend a few other free packages that are so much better than the bloated system hogs Norton and MacAffee have become.
Get rid of Norton. I use AVG free. FWIW.
Agree with the other posters 100%.
Uninstall Norton. Norton (Symantec) USED to make really good stuff. They used to be the premier software toolset that fixed problems with your computer, and prevented major problems from occuring.
They are now one of the most expensive and combative software companies on the planet. You can’t purchase more computer programs that Norton causes. They are a retail version of AIDS.
The problems they claim to fix, they don’t. The things that normally work well - don’t work anymore. Uninstall Norton and take the disk out to the garbage where it can do no further damage.
Oh, by the way - to completely uninstall Norton, you will have to go to their website, and download a program from Norton that will completely uninstall their software. Uninstalling it from the Control Panel does NOT install their program.
Amazing huh? A company that claims to be able to ‘fix’ your PC cannot manage to write an Uninstall routine that every other software company on the planet can do.
Trust me, you want to download the Norton Uninstall program from the internet. Even if you uninstall from the Control Panel and re-boot - there will be a plethora of files and registry settings that will still interfere with normal operations of your OS.
Dump Norton. It’s high priced crapware.
I use Microsoft Security Essentials. It’s free and protects you from rootkits, trojans, spyware, viruses, and it won’t consume all the resources of your computer like Norton.
I will add to the dump Norton for one of free programs.
Microsoft security essentials is good an free.
Add spybot, malware bytes, ariva etc...
Norton was nothing but trouble first an second time I tried it.
To much good freeware available to deal with false positives paid versions seem to spew.
Good luck...
Norton’s confused. It’s actually Norton ITSELF that belongs in the junk pile, but the program’s written by Pakistani monkeys with cognitive issues, so you have to cut them some slack.
Norton sucks. Axe it and get NOD32 (subscription) or Avast (free). I used to recommend AVG, but their new versions are just ad vehicles, and a massive PITA.
Symantec’s tech support is worthless, and they still owe me money for the rebate they refused to honor and the subscription service they cheated me out of. Some versions of their software are notorious for being impossible to remove using normal techniques.
>> “I run Outlook under Windows XP with Norton Anti-virus.” <<
See. There’s your problem.
And I’m not being smart alec or facetious. Norton is worse than useless. Outlook is just as bad. Between Outlook and IE, they are conservatively estimated to be the cause of at least 80% of spam worldwide. Add XP and it’s closer to 100% cause of spam and malware worldwide.
Getting rid of Norton completely, removing Outlook and using something like Thunderbird will fix most of your problems. As for the remaining malware problem, unless you dump XP it will continue.
