Amazing, isn’t it. Similar things can be done to detect the history of a magnet’s polarization. [How computer forensics restores deleted emails for example.]

Magnetic polarization’s history can be ‘tracked’ back multiple times. I don’t know how far back, but pretty dad-gum far. But just as fingerprint DNA deteriorates [on average it takes three months if I recall], so can a magnet’s history.

Very fragile.
