A brewery in Memphis will allow D.G. Yuengling & Son Inc. to introduce its beer to new markets in the South and Midwest, said David Casinelli, the companys chief operating officer.
The Pottsville, Pa.-based company has signed a letter of intent to buy the former Coors brewery from Chism Hardy Enterprises LLC, but representatives of both parties are still negotiating the terms of a possible sale....
Although Yuengling is the nations oldest brewery, it currently sells beer in only 13 states. It has two breweries in Pennsylvania and one in Florida.
The Memphis facility would give Yuengling a foothold to expand into middle America, including highly populated states such as Illinois and Texas.
And, if it opens in Memphis, it also could bring tourism potential, as the brewery could eventually open for tours.
The 1 million-square-foot facility is larger than what Yuengling currently needs, but it would provide room for future growth, Casinelli said. He could not provide an estimate for the number of jobs....
The company bought a former Stroh Brewery Co. plant in Tampa about 10 years ago. About 65 people now work there.
We started out very small, he said. Over time, weve grown that plant. Basically, our strategy is to do it within our means and continue to grow.
Yuenglings existing breweries are open for tours, and the company would look to make any Memphis facility a tourist attraction....

Chinese beer sucks.
Yuengling porter rocks.
Good to hear. Yuengling and Sam Adams are my favorite domestic beers.
Nice price point, too.

Just curious ...Do they brew anything other than lager ?
I was just sayin'.
Chinese beer sucks.
funny....I was in Costco and saw Yuengling for the first time I had the same reaction....then I found out it is a good Pennsylvania beer and the name is German...go figure
LOL!

Yeah, its like having sex in a canoe...
Send some to Texas for my judgement.
You will NOT be disappointed. I believe that Yuengling sells more beer than any other domestically owned brewery. (just surpassing Sam Adams). This will help them grow even more.
Lager is just the best. Less than $10/twelvepack here in South Florida at my Publix. I always buy the cans because I think they keep their carbonation a bit better. I just pour them into chilled pint glasses anyway.
They’ve been so smart at every turn and are just a model company. Everything they touch turns to gold, but there is a lot of hard work and forethought behind every decision they make.
I know Dick Yuengling and he is a very sharp guy.
I’ve heard other good things. Can’t wait till it’s here.
I guess you knew about it before you got to Florida, as your handle is a reference to Joe Paterno?
PPlease please bring it to Texas!
Oh yeah...While I grew up on Rolling Rock, I rejoiced when Yuengling bought the brewery in Tampa. I miss Rolling Rock, but haven’t had a sip of it since InBev sold them to Budweiser.
Yuengling Lager is EVERYWHERE in Florida. It is hard to find a bar that does not have it on tap. Makes perfect sense because I’m sure it is a great price point for the bar owner.
Even in convenience stores, the price for a 12-pack of bottles is under $11. Quite a value in today’s world.
