One thing that is interesting is comparing this to the movie I Robot. The movie runs with the idea that robots start out looking very mechanical, but as they become more sophisticated, they become more human looking.
But in the real world, it appears that making them LOOK human is actually the easy part. The actual physical functionality is the more difficult part. Fast-forward 20 years and this could be interesting.
For some perspective, ask yourself where the internet and video games were 20 years ago. Or even ten years ago. This could be huge in ways most people can not even imagine.

Friends don't let friends date Cylons. You can get electrocuted doing that.

You would think fluid motion would be an easy thing but apparently its not. Even with very realistic video games, the odd jerky stops are a dead giveaway.

Japan is facing demographic collapse, and becasue they don’t subscribe to the leftist immigration ideal, they will NEED to develop robots. From robots will come advances in cybernetic technology, I wish the Japanese luck.

Right, because those subhuman groups don’t deserve ACTUAL human companionship.
Sigh...

Yeah I thought about that myself.
Seems kind of degrading to dump a robot companion on someone because they aren’t worthy of human kindness. I suppose it would be OK as a helper but no more.
