I’ve been having bad cravings for all things 70’s lately. I’m even getting my middle boy go up to the DJ at the skating rink and request Stayin’ Alive by the Bee Gees because I’m too embarrassed to do it myself. 2 different Sundays going there, they wouldn’t play it. Finally we got a DJ that would the third time I was so happy. Reminded me of the skating parties we used to have there. 90% of the stuff they play there is rap. It really sucks. You would think that’s the only “music” being produced now.

They don’t look stoned. They look CHEESY and uncomfortable with lipsyncing ... And the inferior cameraman had no idea ...

Agreed. I think most of the press considered John the "leader" by the time this was taped. John probably pissed the cameraman off, or maybe he really did appear wasted and they avoided clear shots of him.

Oh, yeah. I’ve always loved them. The book I mentioned rounded out their story for me. Still the best book about their songs is, “Revolution in the Head” by Ian MacDonald....several pages of discussion on each song, pre-breakup. At the time, it was fun listening to them experiment and progress with each album release, and their travels from the naive, to the political, to the banal. Great fun.

They look CHEESY and uncomfortable with lipsyncing, which could possibly be the WORST job of syncing I’ve ever seen.

You are a very strange person. The Beatles are one of the Best Selling Groups to ever hit the billboards. Grow up or get a grip. Either or will win me over. Eli.

He's had health issues, but still has concerts scheduled at age 71. Another Canadian cohort with a superb voice, and even older is Ian Tyson.

No kidding. I use to love to go skating back in high school. Many a great date night started at the rink. After I got out of the Navy in 1982, and tried it again and was shocked at what it had become. We stayed for about 20 minutes and swore never to return. Not just the music, but many of the skaters looked like gang members.

This is a typical Beatles video, good stuff! And to the anti-Beatles posting here...... you can stuff it! Without the Beatles, most of your favs would never have happened.

I am a very strange person because that was the worst lipsyncing I’ve ever seen? That doesn’t make sense. Do you watch a lot of bad music videos?

When Elvis came out in the 50’s his brand of singing was revolutionary....at first no one knew he was white. His singing and gospel was so similar to the R and B of the day, he was dubbed the king for that reason...I first heard his singing when I worked at the 5 and dime store...They played the latest songs in the store and everyone didn't know who he was, but was sure he was black...his singing put rock and roll to shame...that was strictly for the white kids and R &B was negro culture and they had to get white singers like Pat Boone to cover the R and B music of the 50’s and 60’s....then came Fats Domino, Chubby Checker Billy ward and the Domino's and Jackie Wilson and a few others that did great cross over songs.... Elvis was the one that busted that whole genre out of the negro culture....(afro americans was not even in the vocab. yet...That came late in the 60's....

I seem to be in the minority, but I am and have always been a huge Beatles fan. But my taste in music revolves around 60’s and early 70’s music anyway, in fact when not listening to the Beatles I mostly listen to my Time/Life Flower Power CD’s.
After I am done with school I plan on putting together another band (just for fun) doing the Flower Power/ 60’s-early 70’s stuff with a Christian slant. Working on the lyrics now.

Speakig of their songwriting prowess, “Yesterday” is the most covered song by other artists of all of them.

"maybe...competitive streak"

Maybe it was George Martin. I don't know if Martin produced any post- Beatles albums by any of the members, but the quality of McCartney's and Lennon's music suffered a precipitous drop post-Beatles. Harrison and even Starr were the only ones whose music was creditable after the breakup.

His voice is older but you can easily recognize it's him.

Do you recall this twitter hoax frm a couple of years ago?

Gordon Lightfoot dead 1t 71

here are some excerpts.

"I didn't know if I was going to perform or not, they'd just pronounced me dead about two days before," chuckles Lightfoot, 71, over the rumour that spread from Twitter to blogs to news organizations' websites on Feb. 18

"I've been quoting Mark Twain a lot lately. 'The rumours of my demise have been greatly exaggerated.' He said that back in 1897. I guess they thought he died while he was abroad, and the way news travelled back then, it took a while for him to get a correction."

"I was able to clear mine up in about eight minutes after I heard my own obituary on the radio. I was driving my car, right past Mount Pleasant Cemetery, on my way back to my office after visiting the dentist."

I actually have that book. Just haven't gotten around to reading it. To tell the truth, even though I defend the Beatles on this thread and see them as great artists; I really don't listen to them all that much anymore. I was really into them from my college years in the mid-70s through the original release of their albums on CD.

These days, I listen to Classical almost exclusively and Sinatra the rest of the time. I guess I feel that now that I am in my mid-fifties, I have sort of outgrown rock.

You think the Eagles were more talented than the Beatles?

The Eagles were far more talented. After all, they were the most popular band of the 70’s. And their solo careers were proof of it. Glenn Frye, Joe Walsh, and Don Henley. What a combination.

I never liked the Beatles either but if I'm in the mood to hear some 1960s music, I go right to "Red Rubber Ball" by The Cyrkle or "The Rain, The Park, And Other Things" by The Cowsills.

Now that's music!
