While George is completely out of it, oddly enough, Ringo seems fine. Paul is buzzed, as well as John.
Now that is good music. Gordon Lightfoot...
‘If you could read my mind love, what a tale my thoughts would tell’ ....
George was also a gentle soul. Ringo was okay. John was a rather unpleasant man who married a really unpleasant woman. Paul is just a big phony in a show biz phony way.
The Wilbury’s were a lot of fun. Roy Orbison was before my time and was never big on Pretty Woman. More recently, I listened to some of his other songs and they are out of this world. Walk On, In Dreams and others. Just incredible. One of the best things to come out of Texas along with Buddy Holly.
Texas - golf and rock and roll. You can mention all the names but it comes down to Ben Hogan - Texan. In R&R you can mention lots of names but it probably comes down to Buddy Holly.
I also always liked Tom Petty. A Florida boy who made it big.
He sounds downright pro-life!
Me too. As a middle schooler, I was really into the Beatles after Lennon died. Always preferred Paul and John as a teen. As an adult I still appreciated their music to some extent, but I think I definitely prefer George to the others now. Liked some of his solo stuff and his music with the Travelling Wilburys too. Here's some animated Beatles with George in the lead:
Agree with your assessment of The Beatles totally. And Roy Orbison is another gentle soul. Fabulous, unique voice. One of my favourites.
Like at the end how he tells Dick Cavett, “Oh I don’t care.”
Wow, Elton John looks really young there.
The Beatles wrote it. If they hadn't written it, The Carpenters would not have ever recorded it BECAUSE THE SONG WOULD NOT EXIST. Even if they'd never recorded anything; The Beatles would be famous as songwriters.
And you are wrong about which version is better (though I do like Karen's version as well).
I've been to three John Prine concerts myself - one “intimate” (less than 200 people) and two “concert” (500 or more). All three were before Bonnie Raitt recorded his stuff, put him on the charts, and put money in his wallet. Politics never came up that I recall, and all three were wonderful (the story behind the “Bottomless Lake” never gets old, IMO). Back then, Prine fans were an eclectic crowd (and Prine was an acquired taste).
Admittedly, I haven't heard anything by Prine since he started “Oh Boy! Records”, so you can imagine how far back I go with Prine. I can assure you I didn't pay 1/4 of that $200 for the most expensive of the three I saw (and it was in a far better than average concert hall).

Amazingly Gordo is still around!
If there are any semi-Beatles fans out there, you'll know that most books about them end at their breakup.
Well, I just finished a great book called, "You Never Give Me Your Money", by Peter Doggett. The author STARTS with the Beatle breakup, and goes on from there to describe an absolute legal hell, bitter in-fighting, a dense thicket of corporate entities, and lawyers, lawyers, lawyers. Whew, a story of pure greed if I ever read one. Sad, but well done, aptly named, and recommended.

Great episode of Gilligan’s Island with the Mosquitoes - Bingo, Bango, Bongo, and Irving.
I have an album by him; the one with Edmund Fitzgerald on it...His voice is smoother than silk
Didn’t realize he was still putting music out. Does he sound the same?
Yes, I know...

Don’t Bug The Mosquitoes - one of my favorite episodes of Gilligan.
And you have to be over 50 to know that their names were - Bingo, Bango, Bongo, and Irving

No matter what that book says; it does not diminish the achievements of The Beatles in the world of pop music. Just because Paul McCartney is a total idiot today does not mean he was not a great tunesmith/wordsmith when he was young.
Also, most Beatles fans stop reading about THE BEATLES after the breakup because whatever followed WAS NOT ABOUT THE BEATLES. Even Beatles fans know their post-Beatles music is pretty banal. Even though Lennon and McCartney wrote most of their songs individually, without the other's help (exceptions are songs like In My Life and A Day in the Life); they somehow produced better material as Beatles than as solo artists. Maybe it was the competitive streak.
I remember in the early 80’s when all the kids were saying “disco sucks” and though I was pretty young at the time I didn’t understand why because I thought disco sounded pretty cool. Good to know I’m not the only person who hates the Beatles! I think I hate them because they were so overrated. Got a coupla okay songs but never got the hype.
Ah, I like Eleanor Rigby.
With three older sisters it was impossible to grow up without the Beatles in our home. One of my girl cousins was sent one of the Christmas Albums signed by Ringo. Amazing how they all went nuts over touching that piece of plastic.
I liked most of their stuff, but they did go off the deep end a number times with some really stupid songs. And I hated the all but the first two movies. The Saturday cartoon was kinda cool though.
