Chris Stevens, 32, of New Richmond, Wis., perfected the formula this summer and grew an orange gourd that weighed 1,810 and a half pounds and today shattered the previous world record of 1,725 pounds.
"There's really no secret. It's a lot of luck and a lot of time," said Stevens, who started growing mega pumpkins 5 years ago. Stevens, a general contractor for Derrick Construction, lives with his wife Amy and their two daughters on 4.5 acres, south of New Richmond and has a 10,000-square foot pumpkin patch.
As soon as Stevens set the world record at 2:05 p.m. at the Stillwater Harvest Fest in downtown Stillwater, congratulatory phone calls started coming in from fellow producers from all over the world. "It feels awesome!" Stevens said.

"This earns him a nice jacket and bragging rights," Ailts told the crowd gathered around the digital scale. I would hope it would be a Members Only jacket.

I am confused, was it a pumpkin or a gourd? They are not the same thing. I just learned that at my local nursery, the mini pumpkins were $.69 and mini gourds were $.99.
They had a pretty big pumpkin for sale for $199.
