Maybe a couple of years ago, I gave up on ever expecting any quality product from the big 3 pizza stores. Without exaggeration, I could get a much, much better product by simply picking up a frozen Tombstone pizza and baking it. (Pizza Inn is great though. They don't deliver here, but I gladly go and pick it up rather than order the crap the big 3 serves.)
On to burgers. I used to love McDonalds and Burger King hamburgers. However, for some time, when I would eat them, they just didn't taste right. Especially McDonalds -- It's like I was eating a meat substitute or something. I thought maybe I just didn't like hamburgers anymore.
It has been a long, long time since I cooked any hamburgers at home. But just on a whim, I tried it last night. Didn't do anything special. Just took some ground beef, sprinkled in some salt, pepper, and garlic powder, and fried it up on the stove.
Ate a hamburger using 2 pieces of bread with mustard. It was the best hamburger I've had in years! Crunchy outer texture of the fried burger with a juicy interior; I know I'll never eat that crap again at the national joints -- just like with the pizza.
For me, it’s Numbero Uno pizza and when it comes
to burgers, it’s In-n-Out.
Not sure if its still there...
Oh thanks, MR, for the appetite suppressant!! LOL
It might be more about being vegetarian than health. Some people just don't believe in killing animals.
Thought I read somewhere that McD’s no longer uses beef raised in the U.S. Texas doesn’t seem to have the same assortment of hamburger places as the west coast. We do have Wendy’s which has an okay $.99 junior bacon cheeseburger and Whataburger which serves U.S. beef, has a picture of American flag in their window with the words “God Bless America”, ours are locally owned, they do not hire illegals or employees who can’t pronounce onions correctly, and they support the troops. Chili’s used to have great burgers but not so much anymore IMO.
Ageed. Their burgers are the best, too.
they just didn’t taste right—————
This post was a waste of time.
But it’s not really about the post, it’s about the psychological deception, or propaganda of it.
To each his own, I suppose, but to me Papa Johns is the worst (and this might just be a matter of the store you solicit rather than the chain).
Papa john's pizza.
-- Crust that could be used as an inner tube
-- Cheese that tastes like somebody thought that dripping hot candle wax over the crust would be a good substitute.
-- Sauce so sweet it could be used as a topping for pancakes.
-- Sausage with so much cereal it could be served in a bowl with milk for breakfast
I was just recently informed by someone who worked at McDonald’s that the little onions they put on the burgers actually arrive there hard and dry, and they have to soak them in water!
True.
The other thing to consider is the $1 menu.
Though, IMO, the burgers from the BK Dollar-menu are [much] tastier than those from the McDonald’s, especially if you have the foresight to get mustard on them. Regarding the dollar chicken sandwiches, the McDonald’s are only slightly tastier...unless the BK workers plop on about twice the normal white-sauce (I think it’s vinegar/citrus-infused mayo).
If you have a big family or large group to feed [rather quick] the Dollar-menus aren’t a bad choice at all.
65 posts in and not one mention of Culver’s??? Double Butter Burger basket with the works. Followed by a concrete mixer. Won’t touch BK or McD’s. Sliders only on special drinking occasions....
Is the egg for texture?
Ah! If only it were ‘roo. Heard it’s tasty.
We actually like Pizza Hut, but their pan crust could be a bit less greasy. Don’t care for the hand tossed as it seems too dry. Hungry Howie’s has good pizza too.
What I want to know is when Little Ceasar’s pizza went down the tubes? Back in the late 70’s early 80’s they were the pizza kings, now their crust is terrible.
bump[
>I have not gone to McDonalds in years... I stayed away from fast food period. I believe the best burger place though from fast food places will be Carls Jr. That will be one place I think I will go to if I need a burger
Carl’s Jr is good; but what about Arby’s?
There’s also a great chain here in New Mexico: Blake’s Lottaburger! [ http://www.lotaburger.com/ ]
If you’re ever around, be sure to get one of the burgers w/ Green Chlie! :)
I would agree that the BK $1 menu is the way to go. I have found the jr whopper to taste better than the whopper lately.
Chateau Blanc! Home of the “Belly Bombers” as we used to call them in the Bronx. We had a White Castle at Allerton Ave and Boston Road. They had great shakes that I thought were better than McD’s.
You can watch them make it from scratch.
I’ve never been to Five Guys, but I understand they’re pricier than a $3.05 In-N-Out Double Double.....and I highly doubt they could beat the quality and flavor.
