Spherix Inc.'s (SPEX) lead drug candidate showed a statistically significant reduction in the occurrence of indicators of diabetes in a Phase III trial of relatively healthy people who had the disease.
D-Tagalose is a naturally occurring simple sugar the company is developing as an oral treatment for Type II, or adult onset, diabetes. The substance, originally developed as a reduced-calorie sugar substitute, has been generally recognized as safe by the Food and Drug Administration for use in food and beverages since 2001, according to the company's website.

Tagatose is a functional sweetener. It is a naturally occurring monosaccharide, specifically a hexose. It is often found in dairy products, and is very similar in texture to sucrose (table sugar) and is 92% as sweet, but with only 38% of the calories.
Tagatose is generally recognized as safe (GRAS) by the FAO/WHO and has been since 2001.
Since it is metabolized differently from sucrose, tagatose has a minimal effect on blood glucose and insulin levels. Tagatose is also approved as a toothfriendly ingredient.

No, it actually is beneficial to diabetics in terms of weight and blood glucose values. That is why it is in clinical trials now. It has been approved as just a sweetener for quite some time.
I’m not saying it’s necessarily a huge effect, but it does help.
I believe neverdem is the one who manages that list. I post frequently about issues related to type 2 diabetes, but I don’t have a list.
