Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Will Elude Kiss for 11th Straight Year
Sopt the Presses via Yahoo ^ | Sept. 28, 2010 | Caryn Ganz

Kiss loyalists, long the butt of rock-critic jokes, have a new reason to be rankled: the artists listed on the Hall of Fame's 2011 ballot, which was announced this morning, include the Beastie Boys, Neil Diamond, Alice Cooper, Bon Jovi, Donovan, Tom Waits, LL Cool J, Dr. John, the J. Geils Band, Darlene Love, Laura Nyro, Donna Summer, Joe Tex, and Chuck Willis. The Beastie Boys got a nod in 2008. Nyro, LL Cool J, and Summer were all nominated last year. Kiss is conspicuously absent, yet again.

Hard-rock icon Kiss released its self-titled debut in 1974, which means in 1999 the band became eligible for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. But Kiss wasn't listed among the nominated bands in 1999 -- or 2000, or even 2001, for that matter. In 2009, the theatrical band finally made the ballot, but it didn't rack up enough votes for induction, and fans fumed while ABBA and the Stooges received the honor instead.

Based on the above list, one has to ask: What did Kiss do to irritate the nominating committee?

Just to add some talking points, my two cents on the nominees:

Beastie Boys – No
Neil Diamond – Yes
Alice Cooper – Yes
Bon Jovi – No
Donovan—No
Tom Waits – No (but will make it based on inside popularity)
LL Cool J – No
Dr. John – No (same comment as Tom Waits) J. Geils Band – Maybe
Darlene Love No
Laura Nyro No
Donna Summer – No
Joe Tex – No
Chuck Willis - Yes

yeah, kiss is one on a long list of bands the hall of fame should avoid. McDonna ought to be on that list too. And of course all of disco.

That’s because Kiss is a really, really crappy band. Great marketing job, but the worst rock and roll ever.

True fans don’t give a damm about these things. The Hall, the Grammys and all the other music awards shows are political. These days, they fawn all over the no-talents and the latest gyrating chippie and call them music. They don’t know good music from a pile of dog dooey.

LL Cool J has nothing to do with rock n roll.

Gee, ya think that it may have something to do with Gene Simmons being born in Tel Aviv and his political leanings. Why haven’t they listed the Moody Blues either.

Sorry, but the Beastie Boys represent no superiority over Kiss’s music. Hall of Fame should be for just that... FAME, and Kiss stands above EVERY act on that list. And I don’t even like them.

That’s because Kiss is a really, really crappy band.

Which may explain why I have never liked them.

But in looking at the list of members, especially some of the inductees in the past 10-12 years, one has to wonder what the criteria is for induction.

In defense of The Beastie Boys, all of their albums have been released to critical acclaim and generally very good sales. More importantly for what seems to distinguish rock music they play their own instruments on several of their albums. Their last album was entirely instrumental (and quite good).

With that said, from the very beginning this should have been called The Popular Music Hall of Fame.

What did Kiss do to irritate the nominating committee?

That H Mo Jann Wenner hates them. If he’s not a fan of a band, that band doesn’t get in.

The Hall, the Grammys and all the other music awards shows are political.

I don't disagree with that per se, but there is another side to it, and that is the 'inside', which may well dove tail with your point.

That would explain why Tom Waits and Dr. John are nominated. I like them both, don't get me wrong, but they are two guys that the insiders like to go see.

Beastie Boys? WHo the heck are they? Thought they were a group of English kids who molested cattle.

Gene Simmons rocks and so does Shannon Tweed. And his kids are cool and funny.

Think I’m going to dress my granddaughter as a KISS member this Holloween. Maybe I’ll go as Simmons. Love the Bat outfits. Can carry a Trick or Treat sign that says:

“Treat or Bite Me”

Rush not in is almost a matter of pride for us fans. Rush is TOO good to be in the HOF!

There was a letter to the editor of Rolling Stones regarding their article (first one ever) about Rush a year or two ago. Went something like:

Dear Rolling Stone:

Thank you for the article on RUSH.
And F%$# you.

In the Rush Documentary there is some fun stuff with Gene Simmons being interviewed. (Rush opened for Kiss back in the day).

Duhhh,, to make room for the incredible lyrics of ABBA. How could a Rush song ever hope to provoke the deeper thoughts of life that ABBA does?/

Red Hot Chili Peppers are eligible. They should be at least nominated.
