Computers love UF as they are ranked 7 in the human polls. THE Ohio State University's recent cup cake non-conference games have hurt their computer ranking. Auburn jumped from 17 to 9. Stanford jumped from 16 tp 11. UT after getting literally steam rolled by UCLA dropped from 2 to 17.

War Eagle. Did any of you see the picture of AU’s eagle flying right about the head of some of the people at the game Saturday? Simply amazing. My DAWGS did not do too badly either.

Lest we forget...The 1916 Cumberland vs. Georgia Tech football game was a college football game played on October 7, 1916, between the Georgia Tech Engineers and the Cumberland College Bulldogs. The game became the most lopsided in the history of college football, as Georgia Tech was victorious 222–0.

Cumberland College, a school in Lebanon, Tennessee, had discontinued its football program before the season but was not allowed to cancel its game against the Engineers. The fact that Cumberland’s baseball team had crushed Georgia Tech earlier that year 22-0 (amidst allegations that Cumberland used professionals as ringers) probably accounted for Georgia Tech coach John Heisman’s running up the score on the Bulldogs. He insisted on the schools’ scheduling agreement, which required Cumberland to pay $3,000 ($59,780 in inflation-adjusted terms) to Tech if its football team failed to show. So, George E. Allen (who was elected to serve as Cumberland’s football team student manager after first serving as the baseball team student manager) put together a scrub team of 14 men to travel to Atlanta as Cumberland’s football team.

According to the “Sports Hall of Shame” book series, another reason for Heisman’s plan to run up the score was that collegiate rules at the time ranked teams based on how many points they scored. Heisman did not consider that statistic a true mark of a team’s success, and may have unleashed his players on Cumberland to make his point.

The game became the most lopsided in the history of college football, as Georgia Tech was victorious 222–0.

Legend has it that in spite of being up by 126 points at halftime, Heisman fired up his team to keep the assault going by saying, ``You can't tell what those Cumberland players have up their sleeves!''.

Boise State #2 when they play no ranked opponents.

I'm a fan of BSU, and I think they are way too high on this ranking.

That being said, Oregon State was ranked #24 when they played this last Saturday, and VA Tech was ranked #6 when they played on September 6.

If oregon State and Virginia Tech add more losses onto their records, the Broncos will NOT play for the National title. Not with their schedule.

Nothing more important than “simulated BCS standings”!

What can I say? Roll Tide, and War Eagle until the Iron Bowl.

I’d love to take a few Aubies at work down a peg or ten.

War Eagle! It was ausome on Saturday. Were you there? Although I live on The Plains, I watched it on TV. At $40 a seat, there is no way I could pay that.

There is something a matter with the Billingsley Report's ratings, that is 1/4 of the computer contribution.

They've got 4-0 Stanford rated #19, and 3-1 Texas #12.

Lessee, Stanford beat UCLA 35-0, and UCLA beat Texas 34-12. Did this not compute?

Getting by Rice and Wyoming must have given Texas an insurmountable lead.

True. I just wish BSU could get more into their schedule as far as ranked teams go. I'd be willing to see them lose, just for a chance to play stronger teams.

It is noted that the SEC dominates the rankings with 3 teams in the top 10. Having said that, this Auburn Alumna puts no credence in the BCS.

I went into the Lids store at the mall here and asked if they had BSU hats (they have hats for nearly every other college). The guy behind the counter said when they win a national championship, maybe they would stock them...

Puleeze.... there is nothing so obnoxious as NFL players identifying themselves as from “THE Ohio State Univ.”, as if there is some other University also known as Ohio State. . 2nd place goes to the guys who say they are simply from “the U” (i.e., Univ of Miami). I’ll cheer for any of the other 9 on the list, but find THE university obnoxiously arrogant.

BSU and TCU cannot be taken out of context by considering one season. The fact is that they are ranked this high based on their accomplishments in the past four or more seasons. I blame the BCS system which has favorite conferences, but does nothing to encourage their favorites to schedule tough out-of-conference games. BSU and TCU get a lot of flack for playing teams that they are obligated to play in conference, but Alabama, Ohio State and Texas should be heavily penalized for scheduling SJSU, Austin Peay, and Wyoming.

We had tickets but gave them to R's son and his friend. Watched it on tv. It was a very good game. He has season tickets. We plan to go down for 2 games in October and one in November. We went down a couple of weeks ago. I stayed in my hotel room since it was so hot. Now, it is getting more like football weather. I can not take this very hot weather anymore. I was talking to my sister earlier today and she said she could not take the heat any longer either. Guess we are just plain out spoiled by AC.

I really did not care for either team until we moved here. The Bama fans drive me nuts. When I started dating the man I am dating, I had to start rooting for AU since he played for them. The campus down there is very beautiful. Kind of reminds me of Mississippi State. War Eagle and Go Dawgs.
