Last Saturday the Madison, WI police department responded to a 911 call about five men openly carrying holstered handguns near a Culvers restaurant. Police soon arrived, detained the men, now referred to by some as the Madison Five, and demanded they produce identity credentials.
The police ultimately cuffed, searched, and charged two men who refused to provide ID with obstruction of justice. Days later Madison Police North District Capt. Cameron McLay said he believes officers acted appropriately in responding to . . . the [911] caller's concern that something might happen.
However the 911 call recording obtained by the Examiner.com pursuant to an Open Records Act request from Dane County does not support Capt. McLays characterization. The caller, Ms. Phyllis Micke, emphasized to the 911 dispatcher that the guns were in holsters, and that theres no problem . . . [the men are] just sitting there extremely relaxed.
After the dispatcher explained that open carry was legal unless they are threatening or disturbing people, Micke declared that
theres no problem and its no emergency . . .I feel bad then, if theyre not doing anything wrong then its my mistake.
Wisconsin Carry Inc. (WCO) President Nik Clark is not surprised by the tenor of the 911 call. Clark said that every time somebody has called the police about open carriers it has essentially been to ask if open carry was legal, not to report a disturbance.
I would sue them for millions and then say if you fire all of the officers involved including the chief I will let you off for only a $100,000.
“What I have a problem with, with the audio, is the name, phone number and address of the caller not being edited out.”
I understand your concern, but it is a public record. On an event that is gaining national attention, it will get out.
also found this on a local forum. Still not sure on how much truth there is to it but if it is this chick is focked
“A member of the Wisconsin Carry sent an email to a member of Madison city council and this was her response.”
“Have a good time staying at home. While legal, it’s inappropriate and
aggressive to pack your little pistols in public places. We won’t miss
you or the childish displays of constitutional freedoms.
Lauren Cnare”
Why would anyone want to own Madison, WI?
Did they get them on Sect 242? Or Official misconduct?
DO NOT EVER call 911 to ask a question.
911 will always trigger an armed response and in most cases must result in an arrest, as in domestic disturbance.
So who do you call. We are so conditioned to use 911 that nobody has a clue of any other number to call.
There are many times that cell phone calls to 911 can not even get an live person on the phone, only an automated GPS directed police action (to the geographic coordinates the cell towers triangulate).
Unless someone’s life is in immediate and imminent danger, avoid 911.
heeeeere’s Lauren!
Hey lookie: apparently her home address and phone number are a matter of public record. http://www.cityofmadison.com/council/district03/
Who? Is there someone beside Phyllis?
this is really what MUST be done to stem the tide of these public *servants*...
It’s not unusual for further information to completely change the situation. I said it might in the earlier threads, so this is not unexpected.
I already said we had probably exhausted the subject unless new info came out.
The most disturbing part starts at 3:47.
So yet another case of cop thugary...cops probably less qualified to carry arms than the men they are harassing...I say it again, we need fewer cops and more armed citizens.
I have no problem with being wrong.
Unsurprisingly, it’s happened before, and no doubt it will happen again.
I do not understand the juvenile celebrations of the possibility, though.
Are we all back in high school or what?
Yeah I like that, the officers must be held acountable, not the taxpayers.
The problem is, the politicians who direct the police response get off Scot-free while the taxpayer gets punished.
There is a problem anytime the police are involved now.
At one time long ago, the police were the law abiding citizen’s friend. This is no longer the case in most places. There are some exceptions.
Now the police consider everyone they come in contact with as either criminals or potential criminals. i.e. Those that have committed a crime or those that might commit a crime in the future.
“heeeeeres Lauren!”
Working to find proof of that response - it could have been any dumb hard core progressive response that are popping up all over Madison News boards and someone appended her name to it..
Although - I guess we could follow the SeeB.S. investigative tactic and just say,it’s not the accuracy of the evidence it’s the seriousness of the allegation...
I’ll post up if I can verify.
This was pointed out yesterday. You tried to argue around it. I understand the desire to not want to make a snap judgment, but this one is pretty blatant on the departments side.
This has been an ongoing issue and as I'm in a neighboring State, I have an interest in what happens there.
I guess it's safe to say that these men were not Hispanic. Otherwise asking for ID would have been a civil rights violation.
